Please don't moan at me here but if I was feeling that way after 6 months I possibly would consider switching degrees. You only have to look at studentphil (hope you don't mind me using you as an eg) who posts on here all the time about how he picked the wrong course, how he wishes he'd changed earlier on but it's too late now etc etc.
Throughout my degree I loved going to uni. I enjoyed my exams and I couldn't think of any course I'd rather be doing. I still feel that way 4 years after graduating.
There is probably another course out there that you'd relish doing and get an amazingly good degree in. Stick with it for this year at least and remember that next year you'll probably get to choose a lot more of your modules. But if it's really not for you and you know it, you could change before you waste more than a year0 -
Take it from me that if you hate that it is best to transfer to something else at the end of yr 1. It gets no better if you hate your subject, even if your lecturers say it will as they want to keep bums on the seats, it probably will not.
I know it means having an extra year, but I think looking back that it is better than two years of hell.:beer:0 -
The problem is that I don't know what else I could do... I was good at everything in college, but there's not a single thing that I am passionate about. That is sad, I know.
My parents keep saying that at least I'm doing something constructive, and in a way, I agree with them. Better the devil you know than the devil you don't... If I drop out, I'll have to get a job and work for measly pay. My friend ended up working full-time in a restaurant when she quit her degree, and I really don't fancy that at all. I think it's the whole uni life thing that is so alien to me, not just the workload/subject.
*shrugs* At least I'm working towards something..? I dunno how to feel!0 -

What about moving to joint honours? That might give you a second subject that you find more interesting or at least cuts down the part of your degree you have to do in the subject you are not so keen on.:beer:0 -
If you really do not feel motivated then I take that as sign from personal experience that you really dont like the subject. I know myself that if it is a topic I hate that it is dread to do it and not just a bit of dislike that I would rather watch tele.
If you hate it now then it will get no better as the complexities, the demands and the difficulty increase as you go on and you will just end up hating it more and more.:beer:0 -
I am really scared now! I am finding AS level hard nevermind UNI!!!!! GEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZ is uni really that hard? I got to hand in a whole entire module in on MONDAY and I have barely even done half, and if any1 dont hand in any coursework in, we will get kicked off the course .........not forgeting the fact that I have my maths exam on tueday which is the worst thiNG0

I'm certainly glad that I made the switch, I actually feel what I am learning now is a lot more relevant to the career I aim to go into, and as a result I'm putting a lot more effort in to my studies, and getting a lot more out of them. As opposed to learning exciting paradigms and fascinating alpha-numerical equations that are so essential to know inside out in todays corporate workplace.0 -

It is not harder but there are more distractions and you will not have parents and teachers to make sure you are keeping up and that you are on top of everything.0 -
I do single honours English Lit., but with a module of Sociology (which I hate more than the English). There are bits of the course that ARE interesting. Like, 'Shrek'..! I enjoy the lectures, it's just the work that's the trouble. It's not difficult, it's just monotonous, hence I avoid it until the final moment.
If I leave then I have NOTHING. No plans. The only thing that I loved is the thing that I dropped at GCSE (art) because I despised the teacher. I've already wasted a year at A level, I don't think I could drop out and watse another year. I'd be 21 before I'm a fresher for the second time (I'd need time to think about the course I want to do). I'd rather suffer it, and have a degree at the end of it. Plus look at all the money I'd have wasted.
