Ryanair baggage charge! how does to take to come through?

  • But I'm basing what I'm saying on what the OP has told us, you seem to be making up a scenario that suits your argument.

The OP said "wouldn't let me rearrange my bag" it was obviously filled
to the gills or there wouldn't have been a problem. Perhaps the OP could enlighten us as to how they were physically stopped from taking out the shampoo. Did 4 big handling agents sit on ther bag? Was the OP at or near the end of the queue?
  • The bag wasn't too big though? so i'm not breaking the rules.
It fitted when I squeezed it in first of all, but the lady said that you need to be able to slide it in and out easily - which it did without the shampoo. When I started rearranging the bag & took the shampoo out, she told me that if I carried on I would have my bag taken away from me & left at the airport - she said she had already filled in the ticket so I had no option but to pay. She was completely out of line - she didn't even give me a chance to do anything about it! I tried to reason with her but she said i had three options - a) get on without my bag. b) pay 40 euros c) don't get on the plane.

I'm unsure why you are trying to argue this Bob The Saver - I posted this to simply ask if anyone knew how long it takes for a payment to come through in situations like this.
  • So, I got charged for having 'oversized luggage' when I was coming back from Ireland on sunday. I was absolutely furious - the lady was SO rude, and wouldn't let me rearrange my bag (my bag was checked for its size on the way in & was fine & it had exactly the same amount of stuff in it on the way back!). She also wouldn't let me put my shampoo in my friends bag (without the small bottle of shampoo the bag fitted fine), OR even throw it away?!?!?!
The OP said "wouldn't let me rearrange my bag" it was obviously filled

She also said what I'vew highlighted above. Like I said, they had time to faff about taking a card payment but not to allow the OP to quickly sort the problem out.
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world
  • it was obviously filled

Just to clarify it wasn't 'obviously filled to the gills' as you rudely put it. Again, i'm unsure why you are trying to argue this - you weren't there. I was simply asking for some money advice - which is what this forum is for?

Then how could a "small bottle of shampoo" cause a problem?

But you seem to share my practical views of taking luggage

"I always check weigh our Cabin bags just to be safe" a quote from one of your previous posts. I'm 100% with you on that.

    - this is precisely why I was so furious. It just doesn't make sense.

So was the case too big or not?

The sense it they have to draw the line somewhere and enforce it. I would suggest you check your hand luggage BEFORE heading to the airport like interstellaflyer and I do then you should have no problems.
  • This is very strange - i've never known such an argumentative forum! It was NOT too big.
Is this really so difficult to understand?

Unless the gate was about to close HOW could the handling agent stop someone taking an item from their bag? was the OP handcuffed?
Taking an item out of a bag is one thing unpacking the bag on the airport floor to re-pack it takes a lot longer (seen it many times).
I can tell you that when I was in this situation with easyJet, the agent did indeed allow us to step to one side and "re-pack" so that she could continue to check-in passengers.

And she wasn't particulary pleasant, but pretty reasonable.

Also, do you think you're helping the OP by adopting a sanctimonious stance?
Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!
