Okay thanks for that.
I'll write and ask for a good will gesture and talk to consumer direct if they call me back if not i guess i can be greatful i complained enough to get my laptop exchanged.
I'm not going to blackmail anyone or take anyone to court, I had asked originally if anyone knew if they had broken the TDA and if it was a criminal offence to do so only because if they had and it was then it would mean that they would probably want me to go away quietly and buy me off if I wrote a letter pointing out that they had broken the TDA.
acron5 you last post appeared after i wrote whats above - thats what consumer direct is for, if there are loads of similar allegation made to consumer direct they collate and send to OFT otherwise they probably just advise people to go back and mention trades description act and sales of good act and smile! I just want to make sure that i tell the right people in case they need to know. Trading standards would only know if consumer direct think its worth passing on to them (well thats how it works as far as i can tell).
dreamypuma - yes maybe i was looking for some one to say that sucks what they done i would pester (in a nice way) for some money off and yes it is a criminal offence to break the TDA and whoever repackaged an ex display model and sellotaped a tag to it say only opened for customer viewing certainly was a slippery little !!!!!!.
paddyrg - refund they won't even entertain that idea
I was quite chilled about this until I came on here ;-)
Thanks for your opinions0 -
Has any of you ever got or even asked for a discount or good will gesture after you were wronged by a shop/ restaurant or financial institution?0

Is there anything "wrong" with the laptop apart from it may have been turned on for a few hours in a shop?
(Not that it matters - they've offered a brand new replacement so you've suffered no loss at all!)0 -
Basically the shop has admitted its error and is putting it right.
It would be nice of them to chuck in a freebie, but I don't see that they have to.0 -

Yes, cheekily asked for a free desert and got it as food wasn't very hot:D0 -
Oh -- also got a £2 sandwich for 30p from somerfield only a few nighs ago. They was closing within the hour so when I asked they was more than happy to get rid of it. Probably wasn't worth the 30p though.0

I see if you make a mistake now, you have to give compensation for...something...?Squirrel!If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
They admit they made a mistake and are sending you a new laptop. What more do you want?!?!
Perhaps the person selling it had genuinely only shown it to a customer, but someone else had turned it on previously?!?!
Life is FAR too short to spend it fretting about issues that have already been resolved.
They want blood !0 -
