Thanks to everyone that gave opinions/advice on nappies.

We're using Totsbots Stretchies and bumgenius aio's. Been using them since birth for 12 weeks now and its great.

Have had to use disposables for 4 days when my little girl was admitted to hospital with Whooping cough and i hated them, leaks left, right and centre!

Struggled a bit at first - 15 nappies just wasnt enough and we were doing washes daily, sometimes twice a day. Shes bf and was pooping every 2-3 hours. Things have calmed down now, and we're doing a wash every other day.

So my view - washable/reusable nappies are brilliant. Even family members who werent keen on the idea have said how suprisingly easy they are to use and not too much hassle when out and about.

Thanks for the update. We also used disposables on holiday for a week and couldn't wait to get back to the washables. I guess it might be down to what you're used to though as my disposable friends seemed surprised that the disposables were leaking overnight.

If I had to change anything I wish I'd gone 50/50 on Bumgenius poppers and velcro. I got 1 popper and the rest velcro. I found when she was small the velcro was perfect, but now she's bigger the poppers are fine, and she can't undo it. Where as if she's not wearing tights or trousers she will constantly undo the velcro!

Also I've found the velcro has deteriorated, but I think I might have got a dodgy couple of nappies, because it's just 2 in particular that wouldn't stick at all after about 10 months of use (same colour and same time I bought them). I tried sewing on the replacement tabs, but I'm rubbish at sewing and it took me forever! So I'm a bit concerned if the velcro will last baby no 2.

I used disposables for all but one of my children. The only reason i didnt use them for my daughter is because no matter which brand of nappy i used or cream i tried they made her sore. She came out of hospital when she was newborn with a sore bum and it was a last resort to use cloth nappies but once i changed her over she was fine.

Ive found the velcro on the stretchies is holding up well, no deterioration, i think because of the fold back tabs and the fact they ALWAYS get folded up immediately on taking off so no forgetting to do it.

I have motherease wraps, size small are 2nd hand velcro which i had to buy when i discovered Cora is too small to go straight into the mediums i had bought before birth. The velcro is quite deteriorated but works ok, they tend to get stuck to stuff in the wash even if i've fastened the wrap up before putting in the machine.

My medium sized wraps are all poppered.

Bumgenius were intended for only using when sending her to her grandparents for the day, so its easier for them to use reusables, but i actually only use them at night. Ive found since Cora started sleeping 6hrs at night these nappies keep the wetness away from her skin, but the stretchies got uncomfortably wet very quickly and she couldnt go 6hrs without a change.

Oh a future tip for you then Sammy, I use the bumgenius at night, but later (I forget when) they did start leaking (well more wicking) purely because they were saturated. I got some little lamb bamboo boosters, they are quite thin, and I add that to the bumgenius insert. Then later - she wee'd more overnight, so now I use the bg insert plus 2 little lambs. And during the day I use the bg insert with 1 little lamb.

I do have some totsbots stretchies and easyfits and I have to say the velcro on them does seem much better than the BG. Sadly the easyfits didn't suit us after 3 months. And I had the same problem as you with the stretchies...they do have that wet feeling don't they?
