Will probably use disposables for the first few weeks until I get into the swing of having a baby around again, and maybe for trips out too, but envisage using washables for 80-90% of the time.
If I knew how to put a photo on I'd show the cute giraffe/leopard/cow print ones I've got so far!
The microfibre inserts that come with them are good for a small baby but as they get older you will need to either use 2 of them or change to either a bamboo, hemp or terry booster. You can actually stuff with anything you like and have a mixture of different materials either upcycled from old t-shirts, towels and absorbent materials if you want to avoid paying out for newer inserts.
I picked up a bambino mio set for pennies on ebay (they are dire) but good for stuffing, finally an actual use for prefolds.
Some pockets that dont have cross over snaps might be a bit roomy on a new born but they will grow in to them, my LO didnt fit them until he was about 6 weeks.
I have the same prints in my collection, they're awesome.Little Person Number 4 Due March 2012

Ditto!
Used on both kids, saved a fortune.
I think one of the things about washables is that, as so few people use them, people don't see them as "normal", so are put off as they're different to what everyone else does.
Never forget the nurse who did DDs hipscan - she was so curious over the washable as she'd never seen one before in her 5 years working with babies up to age 1!!!!! A large city too.
OP - if you do decide to give washables a try, remember that each baby is unique and what works well on one baby may be leaky on another, so go to a "nappaccino" when bubs is born and get bubs fitted in a range so you can see which one is likely to be a good tight fit with few leaks.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

I use terry nappies. I have never bought disposables. Mum bought me one pack but that pack lasted me for three babies. I have just plain 60cm squares as they are easy to wash and peg on the line to dry. I had four in nappies for a while so washed every day.
Terries work out so mush cheaper, I hate the thought of all the land fill and save trips to town.
To be honest I really don't mind spending time playing with my babies when changing them. I loved watching them all kicking on their changing mats they're a bit older now so pinning them down is tricky!
I do agree with the poster above, some clothes don't fit over terry nappies

Using washable here (Bambino Mio), very MSE and using washable wipes (cheeky wipes) - which are fantastic & even if you dont get on with washable nappies, i'd highly recommend the washable wipes. Just chuck em in the washing machine when you put a wash on, once done, get them out (still wet) and pop them back in 'clean' tub ready to use. I don't know what disposable wipes cost but i'm sure I'm saving a fortune, plus no nasty chemicals against LO's skin=====================================

if you buy huggies or pampers when on offer they average between £1 - £1.50 a pack
Still 1-2p per wipe
If i had a penny for every nappy change i would be rich :rotfl:

I have just ordered my nappies from the nappy lady, who I found to be super helpful. This is what she says on her site about reusable wipes:
Potential Cost Saving
Assuming you were to use one packet of disposable wipes per week over a period of three years for one child, the calculations would be as follows: Terry Wipes:
40 Terry/Fleece Wipes (One off initial purchase) = £22.00
Ongoing replacement costs = £0.00
Cost per year = £7.33
Total cost over three years = £22.00
Disposable Wipes:
1 x Pack of 64 disposable wipes @ £2.49 per week = £2.49
Cost per year = £129.48
Total cost over three years = £388.44
As you can see from the above calculations, simply by using terry wipes instead of one packet of disposable wipes a week you can save £122.15 per year, or £366.44 over a period of three years. This is a significant amount of money saved for very little initial outlay. In fact, these savings will more than cover a complete cloth nappy system!
I don't know how many wipes you generally get in a pack but Raven lady says £1-£1.50 a pack so it will still work out at: about £234 over 3 years.
I have got a two part tots bots kit with motherease wraps. They are just so cute and soft. I have some disposibles ready for the first two weeks when washing is the last thing on my mind
SHD have you got the cheeky wipe kit? I was going to buy it but my napy pack had a mesh and I figured I would just buy some plastic tubs to put the wipes in and then I can get different sizes for when I'm in the house and out and about.
I'm looking forward to using them. They look really good.0 -

The nappy lady is fantastic - I buy all my nappy bits from her. The wipes she sells are great actually, I have 40 or so and actually find I've got a few too many.
Sounds like you have the same nappies as me, they're great, stretchies are by far my favourite nappy. I'd suggest fleece liners (chopped up £2 Ikea fleece) to cut down on staining though, they hold onto stains more than my other nappies0 -

Hi all
Im looking at nappy systems for bump when he/she arrives.
Did you/do you use disposable nappies or washable nappies with your children?
If you had any experiences with washables, (either good or bad) i would appreciate your feedback.
Thankyou!
