I'm not generally one to reply toforums but found this amazing thread and couldn't help myself - especially since it'll be my little mans First christmas (he won't remember it but we still want it t be special) but have to be restrained with the pounds as my better half is still on maternity leave.

We've started the the planning and a little of the prep:
still have a Xmas pudding left from last year
started buying some pressies from eBay (got some cracking deals)
got some Xmas choccies yesterday from sainsburies (2 for £10)

can't wait to see more tips from you experienced money savers
  • Ive got a week off work in 2 weeks time so just booked train tickets for myself to manchester for the day to hopefully get some more christmas presents sorted :)
  • Ok zippy, Christmas veg: swede and carrot mash, if we didn't have that my family would refuse christmas lunch :rotfl: That's alongside cauliflower, brussels, parsnips, peas, broccoli, roast tatties etc We do have just a small amount of each. It used to be swede mash and separate carrots, I feel it's a great advance I now combine them into one mash :D
You never get a second chance to make a first impression.
  • Christmas veg here is peas, carrots, onions cooked with the roast potatoes, and usually broccoli or sweetcorn. No brussels here, I don't like them and they don't like me, none of the kids likes them and my Mum can't eat them. If I have a veg box delivered and it includes brussels I do just enough for my MIL and husband. Any left over veg gets bagged up and put in the freezer to be used for soup. I like to have a fresh batch of veg for boxing day, my MIL's idea of bubble and squeak which is basically fried left over veg cooked in loads of oil does not appeal at all.
  • I can't believe how quickly this vodka has eaten the sweets! It's a nice shade of dusty pink, just decanted back into its original btl, with a teeny tiny bit left over... on my next trip to shops, I'll b purchasing another half btl to try other sweets. And will be looking out for cheap mini btls to use at crimbo time.
