Sorry, but you'll have to take back seat .... 'A' needs a "chat" ;) and I don't think it has anything to do with the "T" word :silenced: ;)

:grouphug: froggergirl - so sorry to hear about your news...

Catowen - yes, the xmas cake made it in one piece, although the OH threatened to leave it behind!!! With our weight allowance being 18kg each, and with the security restrictions it *had* to go into the cargo hold, and the cake weighed a good couple of kg all on its own... i packed mine and OH weighed it and it turned out to be over 25kg!!! we repacked in a hurry - and OH took stuff out of mine - mostly clothes :rotfl: - and he ended up having the xmas cake in his suitcase instead - AND the mince pies.

anyway, the mince pies were a bit shaken up, and since they were crumbly anyway they crumbled a bit, but were perfickly edible. The cake arrived in one piece and was *very* well received by OH's family, although when they learned that i made the cake in October and that i would recommend making it in september next year they were slightly stunned (they think i'm crackers for planning xmas so far in advance i think), although my MIL did ask for the recipe, which i gladly gave her. They especially like things that they can nibble on, or that chunks can be cut off, kept for a while, that sort of thing - New Year's Eve (which got charmingly translated as Old year) my MIL spent the morning cooking olibollen, which are a sort of donut with raisins and chopped glace fruits in - we were eating them for *days* afterwards (if anyone is ever in the netherlands for NYE, i would recommend taking earplugs for the first hour of the new year - they let off a LOT of fireworks!!). They were more impressed with the cake than with the xmas pudding i took over a couple years back, so i really wouldn't be surprised to hear that MIL is attempting one next year.

GrannyBroon - we haven't had any yet, although we are trying, and it was a real treat to be able to hold one as young as she was (born xmas eve). I got really broody (and a little upset later), but its renewed my determination to lose weight and get pregnant this year if at all possible :) I have to say that although i will love my children to bits and cherish them greatly, I'm also going to *try* to let other people look after them as much as possible, especially when they're little - if you know what i mean - because i think its important that other family members get a chance to bond as well. OH's family particularly are very "sticky", as his sister called it, very close, and i cherish that. I actually get on better with them than i do with my own family, and i've been informed that when i do get pregnant, my MIL and FIL will be getting in the caravan and coming on over to england to help out for a while, which will be wonderful.

Queenie: thanks for the good wishes!!

Tomorrow i have to go to Aldi to pick up some of their sturdy plastic shelving, as we're determined to sort out some of our storage space. We've plenty of actual *space* (big closet of doom, a pantry in the kitchen) but there's very little shelving or drawers or anything like that in those spaces so things get piled up and as a result, we can never find anything and end up buying things we already have.. not good. Also gotta go to Tesco to get a few bits n bobs from there so a busy day.

anyway, i'm off to watch the box for a bit (BBC2: The Truth about Food), and enjoy a cup of cinnamon tea :D Hope everyone has a good evening!

    keth
    xx

Had a text about an hour ago. A big wine sale in our local Somerfield after I had been in at 5.00. . DH just gone along - we now have 18 bottles in the rack! You winno's check it out tomorrow! We bought loads last January in our local Co-op (fortunately at the time could afford to do it) and only now just about running out! If you can afford to pick up bargains - do it!

Off to bed - really knacked. Would love to keep up with you but can't. I can't believe you night owls starting the thread - a rare occasion if I ever do.. Perhaps when DH is away next month!

Love to all and hope to catxh up with you all tomorrow when at work before weekend in Aberdeen.
