evening folks!!
just back from the Netherlands where we disappeared to for 2 weeks to visit the OH's family (including a gorgeous-good-enough-to-eat-newborn baby girl who i got to hold for a *whole* afternoon!), but we didn't really have a net connection there so apologies if my disappearance worried anyone.
we had a great time, catching up with family... got to do some shopping - they have a fantastic shop attached to the local "dump" where furniture and "useful" things get recycled for a small price - we picked up a box for ryvita crackers for 50cents (80p or so) and a thing to make tea from that holds loose tea in one place for 25 cents(40p or so) and a computer monitor riser for 2.50 euros (less than £2), a place that i absolutely ADORE and i want to hire a car n go back there - they have some lovely items of furniture for very little. Also picked up food items, things that i can't get here in the UK (mostly indonesian food, as its difficult to get the authentic thing here, sambals (chilli relishes) n that), again for very little. Nivea handcream, the large pots that cost about £2-3 in the UK are available for 1.60 euros (just over £1) so i got a couple of those. We were really only restricted by weight allowance (18kg) on the plane - and the difficulties created by being limited as to what we could take in our handluggage due to the current security restrictions.
We left our dog and flat in the care of a friend, so when we got back last night the kitchen was virtually empty and we were running dangerously low on loo paper so i had to dash out today to get some stuff to tide us over. OH pushed the hoover round (its amazing how the dog hair builds up when its not done for 2 weeks!) while i was out, bless him, and we're slowly but surely getting back to normal. christmas is well and truly over, and we're going back on the diet - we both put on weight over xmas / holiday so we're determined to lose it again, and a bit more besides.
hope everything is ok here - did i miss anything exciting? *trundles off to catch up on everrrything... which will take a couple of days at least*

Windy here too, just found out DPs step Mam's Mam passed away this afternoon so DP gone to work a little upset, ok wasn't blood related but she looked after him a lot when he was little etc so near enough his Grandma really, tbh I prefer his step Mam to his Mam she is lovely and her Mam was the same, she treated my kids like her own Great Grandkids, they always called her Nana, such a shame but had been battling cancer for a long time and took really poorly over the last few days. DPs said he doesn't think he should go to the funeral as he's not family, but like I said when he was young he spent as much time with her, if not more, than her own Grandchildren did. Think I'll leave it up to him now.
Got the computer back now he's off to work, just doing some catching up on eBay, need to find the rest of the items I was going to list, and the camera!
Got my fruit and veg delivery to put away (just added to my total) don't know why but I bought leaks, only me eats them, will have to make something for me with those. One day I might be more organised...........

Pleased to hear you're getting something done about the fence dlb
agree on the shower, my sons don't usually use it but saves so much time for me and DP.
Lovely evening isn't what I think I will have, kids are in a moody because swimming was cancelled, puppy is refusing to accept toilet training and thinks our loo is hers, she's driving me insane! Winds blowing things away, inc the fence which I have just been out and propped up with the childrens slide, stop the puppy escaping when she is out there hopefully, and the bins, can't find the bike chain I was using to fasten them to the railingsthey're having a race down the path I think!
One day I might be more organised...........

lil me - he's bound to be upset. So sorry but I really do think he should go to funeral - - it would help him move on you know. After all we don't just go to blood relatives funerals, we go to the ones of people we care for. I also have gone to ones of colleagues family, not knowing deceased, but just to show I care. I also went to one not so long ago to represent my best friend as she couldn't be there and she was so pleased. Although I knew quite well the daughter of the lady who died, she didn't even say thanks for coming! That's life
Welcome to the newcomers. I am not very old on this site - still newborn I would say!
dlb The witch maybe hasn't realised something going on - does she come home once it is dark? Is DH doing the old two finger for victory war thing or the other!!!!!!!!! Good for him. I do hope there are no repercussions but as said before your council bloke sounds on the ball.
Washing now on as our friends have confirmed we are going to the frozen north-east Scotland tomorrow for a very lovely (hic, hic, extra hic weekend!). DH will pick me up from work and I have just arranged a lift in so my car not there.
Will probably pop in again later and if not will do so at work tomorrow (urgh staff meeting am!!! B***h as usual.) work permitting.
Valentine Will be in touch honest. Hope things not too stressful today. Have been thinking about you. Glad you pm'd me. hugs - GB0 -
Evening everyone :hello:
I've had a lovely day of supply. The children were so incredibly well behaved, motivated, thoughtful, caring.......... If only every school was like that! All the teachers were lovely, but I suppose it helps that I did my PGCE with one of them. I hope that I get to go back there again, as it's why I wanted to teach in the first place. It's definitely not the "best" school on paper, but the *feel* of the place is just tremendous.
I was so motivated when I got home that I did my Rosemary Conley DVD. Also, another special treat is that my triple box set has turned up from CD Wow, so definitely no excuse to do no exercise!
I've got half a day of supply booked for tomorrow. I'm trying to decide whether I should pop to another local town for a wander (and no doubt spend money  ) OR be a good little girl and come back home and do some ironing?Lucie wrote:Sorted out new house insurance this morning. It's the same monthly DD cost but I get £125 cashback via quidco, :T The only dilemma is, do I put it in a savings account to (part) pay for next years insurance like a good little MSE-er or go out & blow it on frivolous frippery???!!!
The way that I'm feeling at the moment is that I'd probably put 50% away for next year's insurance and spend the other 50%. Then, I'd see somethings that were fantastic and spend all of it.
I had a text from a friend earlier, who I haven't seen for years. She's wondering whether I'm free next Monday evening to go to the Trafford Centre. Now, I'm a lady of many talents, but I've got some work the following day and it takes a good 2.5hrs to get there.......... and 2.5hrs back. I'm thinking not this time.....
Supper tonight is honey and mustard chicken (Chicken Tonight sauce, but it was on BOGOF) with new potatoes and steamed veggies.
Take care all
Vicky

kethry Sorry - meant to mention you in my post. Sounds like a fab time. A few weeks ago my daughter's friend had her third boy - wit's end. not settling, windy etc etc. GB took over and had 3 hours of sorting him out - half an hour bottle, wind, 5 mins nappy, then big sleep in GB's arms. Gorgeous. Can't wait for DD to have 3rd in July. I love babies and despite my age (and all these new fangled baby ideas!) I can usually get them well sorted!

lil_me - sincere condolences ((hugs)) Yes, your DP should most *definately* attend the funeral!!!! He'll regret it if he doesn't and the fact he's not blood related makes *no* difference at all! It's a place for people to pay their last respects and he's as entitled to be there as anyone.
Welcome home kethry! So pleased to read that you had a great time :T :T
:hello: spiddyGreat news on getting your lappie fixed :T
VickyA - Sounds like a *very* good day to me :T :T Oooh tough choice! Town/ironing  town/ironing  town/ironing erm .... compromise? Pop into town and do the ironing when you get back?
SandiRaRa - no advice other than ... stick with it!! It *will* work out in the end!
Well, the Carrot & Almond Soup went down briliantly and I also used up some (reduced) diced turkey thigh from the freezer to make a concoction to pass as dinner
The house is smelling much, much fresher since I utilised today's wind to give it a thorough airing .. well, more like a blow through than airing, but it was good anyway
Tonight it's crafting time, oh and I must make a phone call which I know will be fairly long so while I put my listening head on ... I'll knit~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
