You can't really 'hide' your IP - otherwise the other computer won't know where to send the information. You can use Tor - this routes the information you send through multiple other computers, so that the server you're accessing doesn't know where the information is coming from. However, this can be quite slow, and is not recommended for downloading large files (not least because that uses up a lot of bandwidth, meaning other people can't use it).
Why exactly do you want to hide your IP address anyway?0 -
Ye agreed with Darksun.
You shouldn't need to hide your IP and if you do its prob for illegal use. In which case we shouldnt really be helping!
Why would you try accessing a webpage but not want to be discovered?...[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

First few paragraphs suggests usages which are all immoral!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Either avoiding detection, not letting the Government see what pages ur on as it contradicts laws etc..
The only ONLY valid argument is the protection from hackers. Simple. Dont go on dodgy websites. Dont hide your ip![FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

It's not illegal to not let the Government see what pages you're on
Tor is used internationally in countries like China, parts of the Middle East and South/Central America where internet access is restricted and monitored. I think these are ligitimate and far from immoral reasons to use this technology. I think it's more immoral for the government to filter internet access, and monitor it for the purposes of weeding out 'subversives'.0 -
ok...
BUT...
If the government tells you not to do something... so you hide urself and do it anyway.. then thats breaking the law.
If the governement tells you not to steal.. so you put a mask on and do it... does that make it legal?
I know its a pretty far fetched comparison but you cant tell me masking it is perfetly legal when doing this that you shouldn't be! lol (or moral...)
By the way op don't forget, your more likely to get found by these places. They use random proxy servers and if they get taken down for something by authorities they have your ip and every page youve been on...
If its for genuine use I apologise...[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

If you commit a crime wearing a mask, you don't get punished for wearing a mask. You get punished for committing a crime. Wearing a mask isn't illegal (yet), neither is hiding your IP address.
Tor is pretty safe (but not completly) against tracing though. It routes through three relay servers, none of which know the full route. It'd be nessecary for authorities to seize all of the servers, which are usually located in three different countries, and for all of the servers to be keeping logs (doubtful).0 -
lol I didnt say hiding your ip was! I was saying the intentions for hiding the ip usually are! thanks for getting my point
only one server would need to be seized and information can always be retrieved don't forget(the first server it routes through..)

Yeah, but the first server doesn't know where the information is heading, and hence it isn't usuable as evidence. Also, the information can't be recovered if it isn't written in the first place.0
