So are you suggesting there is a problem with item going out from a certain post office, in which case call Royal mail as they took me seriously a few years back when my mail sent from a certain place started getting lost.

Although since you go on to mention recorded I assume you mean you suspect fraudulent buyers, in which case as above check your listings- make sure you are not attracting problems

Is there a new breed of scammers, who buy cheap small items being posted with recorded delivery, knowing that there's a very strong possibility that they won't have to sign for it. If they don't sign they then put in INR claimed.
    Just an idea.

Do you have your address on the packets? If by any chance they've been taken to the delivery office, after 7 days they should be returned to you, if there's a return address.

yeah my address is on the back, also at least with recorded I have proof it went to post office, ok maybe the odd one will be someone trying it on but not as many as what has went missing, plus they were all posted the same day!

How do you respond to buyer that puts 'item not here refund now!!!!!!!!!!' I seriously wanted to tell her where to go, it has got me totally fed up, i was so pleased I had managed to up our income just that little bit, now just does not seem worth the hassle

A certificate of posting is also proof of posting for standard mail.

If you do get an impatient buyer respond really calmly as sometimes it all come out wrong when they email and a lot of the time they haven't realised how it comes across. Just apologise and reassure them that you will refund, but see if you can get them to wait until into 2nd week. Personally I would never send a scan of my POP as that just winds buyers up as they assume you expect them to claim.

AS above though if you are losing a lot of items then it is well worth trying to work out why. My own losses are about 1 in every 1000 and i think I am about average.

Something is definitely going on with your mail, that amount of losses must be a record, not a good one either.
In about 1500 transactions I've had one INR.
Your COP that costs nothing will be all the proof that you would need that the item had gone into the postal system, 77p saved on each transaction.

    Scammers are EVERYWHERE!

I try not to send anything recorded delivery, as the biggest scammers are Royal Mail...

Claiming is a pain (and never easy).

Perhaps you can make a complaint to the Post Offic, as it seems strange so many items have gone missing within a week.

Other posters have advised, quite rightly, that you pay RETURN postage as well, when posting an item (incase delivery cannot be made), so if you have put your address on the mail it SHOULD be returned to you within about a week (for no extra fee).

Your mail has just disappeared, it seems...

I'd be complianing to Royal Mail (but Royal Mail won't be able to repair any negative feedback, which - for me - is more important).

    Erm...

Give it a rest - you have no clue what you are talking about.
Most recorded deliveries are dealt with properly. 96% last year if you want the figures.
Ebay in no way keeps RM afloat. That's purely ridiculous.
Royal Mail are scammers? Scammers are everywhere?
Royal Mail is the most regulated postal service in the world.
    Scammers are rare.
Try to find a subject you know something about and give sensible advice.

Just download a bulk certtificate of posting from the RM website.
Print it and fill in yourself. The PO will stamp it for you.
My local Crown Office has printed some off for ebayers and dish them out if someone brings over three packets.

As above - martindow . Plus, the PO must give you a CoP. Next time get a book of them and hand write any that are stamped by you. Then the PO clerk just stamps it and gives it back.

You can't get the hand-written ones any more - the PO have discontinued them (although there may still be a few books knocking around as this was only a couple of months ago). They now have to do each one individually for stamped items, which is a right pain if like me you send a lot of <100g large letter or letter sized items. (Fortunately my postmistress does them for me after I've gone and I pick them up when I go in again the next day).

Anyway, I digress. Just wanted to say to the OP, for future reference - what the counter clerk told you was wrong; they can do you a proof of postage for pre-paid mail, but they don't like doing it because they do still have to enter it through their system to get paid on it (They have to enter the pre-paid amount at the end to bring the amount due to £nil). HTH.

Thanks, I didn't know you could still do this.

How do you reckon that RM are scammers?

Read the above. It was rather tongue in cheek...

Must have been missed by everyone who know better.

I didn't say that I knew better, I was wondering why you reckoned that RM were scammers.
I didn't realise that you were joking.
    Thanks for clearing that up.
