you could uninstall google toolbar, delete google update task from windows\tasks, fix the java update and ctfmon using the speedup guide, and stop some or all of these running at startup using msconfig.

Am so sorry to bother you with this again, I'm completely stumped and fed up the machine, it was flying, I had started to work my way through the advice hadn't reached it all but wasn't too concerned as machine was great,

However on switching it on tonight it has taken ages for the desktop items to appear on screen when booting up, and it is also very slow ripping cds again.

any advice? or am I as well to do another factory restore, but really not sure what has happened in the interim.
