Ooh, and how do labret studs work? I had a look online, but couldn't fathom how they're better than butterfly backs (a bit dense at this time of the evening, if I'm honest) - I ask because I too get irritation from butterfly backs, with the second hole in my left ear regularly weeping and going peculiar, even though it was pierced several years ago now, and I wonder if these labret studs would work for me.:o

    1. Sounds like she's forgotten what she originally diagnosed. I had a Nurse Practitioner much like her in attitude - for one appointment only. I spoke to the consultant for my next appointment and was promptly taken off the wicked old bag's list. Mind you, the fact that I could tell the consultant how much confidentiality she had breached, giving the names of the patients she had dictated letters about in front of me and the consultant knowing I worked in the hospital probably helped.

In fact, if the telephone call contained sensitive information regarding admin, the consultant's personal life or patients, that would be a good thing to bring up with PALS.

If I were you, I would go with Mr LW to your GP with a list (as you do like lists :)) requesting

    Diagnosis/diagnoses

Blood tests carried out - Full blood count, CRP, ESR, Rheumatoid Factor, antibodies, etc and their results. I'd be asking the GP if they could write out a request form for all of them so any changes could be spotted and anything not yet tested for can be.

Medications prescribed and dates they were reviewed. And what they are actually for/why some were changed/discontinued. I'd concentrate on the most recent ones first.

The number of times you have had your eyesight monitored over the time you have been taking [STRIKE]plaqenil[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]plauqenil[/STRIKE] hydroxychloroquine :p

    2. Labret studs...[wanders off to find a picture]

    140.jpg

This is the general idea. They're a bit weird in that they are inserted from the back of the ear and then the attachment is the little ball or other such shape that is screwed onto a thread. It's fiddly, but I can manage it better than flaming butterflies. Barbell ones (exactly as they sound - one fixed ball instead of a flat disc and one that screws on at the front) would also work, I think.

As it's not got any nasty nooks and crannies, can't get compacted and too close to the ear and is basically one piece (that is actually a lot sturdier), they're smooth, can't twist or tilt with pressure, easier to keep clean and let the ear form a proper fistula.

It also helps that they tend to be titanium and therefore less likely to cause allergic reactions.

You can get different gauges (I think 16 or 18 gauge is the usual for ear piercings), as they are used for such things as upper lip Monroe or Madonna piercings (placed where they had moles) but any place that deals with piercings would be happy to help advise, and change them over for you if you want. They're not expensive, either.

The care I have been advised for my ears to prevent infection is to soak cotton pads dipped into saline made with a good pinch of rock or sea salt in a shot glass of boiling water and allowed to cool until just hot, then left on the ear until cool. This apparently softens any crusting and encourages any fluid/ick buildup inside the piercing out. Once this is done, I apply some benzal piercing solution and dry. Hopefully, this means that I shouldn't have as many problems as some people do - I've had next to no problems with my nose piercing, so I don't see why this should be any different, especially as I had upper helixes which are cartilage and not lobe ones - and done properly rather than with a gun.

I know dropping into a piercing place might be difficult for you, but whilst I would be more than happy to get a set for you and send them on (PM me), I think you would benefit from advice from people who are qualified, as they would be. And they do up the closures every day :)

Ooooh - 6 hours until time to get Minion up for school! :j

    Morning All

My car's in the garage today having a new clutch so I need to take the kids to breakfast club, drop it off and then walk home. So that means leaving about 8.05 - the kids don't know this yet but neither of them are up yet anyway - although I think I can here DS moving around after he very kindly got in bed with me at 4.50 and woke me up.

So I will be spending all day at home so I must get some jobs done as I'm going out tomorrow. I would like the house - or at least the downstairs to look a little bit habitable when DH comes home tomorrow night.

    Have a good day all

    Hugs

Morning all, DD just left for school and is so excited. She is going to be horseriding today, first time. :D

I still didn't get anything done last night, i went to bed. :( Still feeling abit crap this morning but i just need to get on with things today. I'll have a few hours at home before heading to an appointment and then on to the hospital. So my mini list for this morning is......

    1) empty and reload dw
    2) empty kitchen bin
    3) put recycling out
    4) clear worktops
    5) clean worktops
    6) clear front of wm
    7) put a load of washing on
    8) peel spuds for later
    9) give livingroom a quick tidy

Then when all my running about is done

    1) hoover right through
    2) put another wash load on
    3) make dinner
    4) brush and mop kitchen floor
    5) put all clean clothes away
    6) brush out our room
    7) get homeworks done
    8) get times sorted for the weekend
    9) sort some paper work
    10) get fire lit
Sometimes it seems that the going is just too rough.
And things go wrong no matter what I do.
Now and then it seems that life is just too much.
But you've got the love I need to see me through.

  • Morning!

Minion suitably deposited on the bus as she wanted the chance to meet up with her friends. Wouldn't let me get on the bus to chuck ignorant bints staring blankly like a herd of Fresians at the freak child with the crutches out of their seats. What is it with adult women? Is kindness only perpetrated by men in suits? (only people to give Minion their seat on the bus since she did her knee in have been men). Last time I saw her, she was heading up the stairs in search of a seat as the bus driver accelerated away). I am going to try and not think about it. But the first bus driver to refuse to stop for her (they drive past if there aren't any adults at the bus stop, even when the bus is completely empty and on time - $$&*£*$*!!!!!!) is going to have a shock.

Had a packet of salt & vinegar crisps and a can of Red Bull for breakfast and I am trying to stay awake as I hardly got any sleep last night, with the intention of getting some vacuuming done. But it's so cold this morning!!!

    Up and at em today.

Taken DD2 to school, she declined to take her crutches as she wants to 'manage'. Met with head of year (a new one) and she was very supportive which was refreshing.
    Back home now,
Coffee on, washing drenched outside on line, paperwork for work to do, chickens and cat fed.
Have now got to start thinking about birthday events and how to manage them.

After coffee, off for a HHC if anyone would like to join me?
