Drop a note through your sellers door, telling them
    1. You rang the agent to make an offer
    2. The agent was too busy to take you offer and promised to ring back
    3. The agent has not rung back <x> hours or days later
    4. Your contact details

    Great advice

Thrugelmir and Googler, of course I could have but why should I? Plenty of houses out there for my £300k!

Well, if you're so.... detached, shall we say, about this one, and apparently lacking in enthusiasm for it, why are you posting here?

Why should you? Because you're keen about it, and want to buy it before someone else does?

That's a very narrow view. From a far broader business perspective I find customer service generally very poor. In the main though its the attitude of the employees rather than the Company ethos.

In this country we seem to expect high service as consumers yet fail when it comes to performing our own jobs.

I really wish it was a narrow view, but unfortunately, I really think it is true.

Yes, of course there are bad customers, but many companies such as John Lewis manage to provide good service regardless, and so EAs should be able to do so too.

And I tried.........they rake in £3k off it, so I expect their service. Others apathy about it is one of the reasons it occurs. I was making the point about how unfair it was on the vendors, not me - but you continue to bypass this Googler? Whether I am arsed or not is not the point, the fact is the EA wasn't but the vendors would be ;)

John Lewis is also a highly profitable company. Service comes at a price.

I don't understand your point. It is highly profitable because people like me use it because of the service it provides regardless of whether it is the cheapest.

Any estate agency which did this could also be highly profitable.
  • Hold on both of you - the EA gets nearly £4k here for quite little.......

For one, you're not party to the contract between the seller and the agent, so I don't think you really know how much they will be paid.....

and two - you're not paying them ....

and three - you don't really know what other work the EA has done for the seller, so can you really comment on whether it's 'quite little' or not?
  • Well done Googler, again so insightful. One, how do you know it hasn't been mentioned in numerous views/conversations?

and two - by jove you seem to be beginning to get my OP point.......poor vendors (get it yet?)

You can apply the same analogy to any business service.

The EA has been treated like a witch in the olden days. Seems very unfair. Without knowing the actual facts.
