I tried to make an offer but....

...the vendors EA was "busy" when I rang but would ring me back (Friday morning), so I made sure I gave clear name, phone number and the reference to what I wanted to discuss/do (make an offer). It isn't every day I look to spend nearly £300k but the EA didn't get back to me.
If I was the vendor I would be livid

if the vendor lives in the house I'd pop round and make your offer in person!Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -
Why didn't you ring again?0

If you're keen on the house, why didn't you - a - ring again, b - send them an e-mail with your offer in writing or c - write them a letter with your offer in writing?0 -

Well she shouldn't have to, but in practice most EAs are highly inefficient and shouldn't be allowed to run a bath let alone a business.
I understand how the OP feels, but most EA don't understand about customer service and seem to think that both buyers and sellers are just irritations. I really don't understand how so many useless EAs manage to remain in business especially in this climate.
So, to the OP, don't treat EAs like normal small businesses who will usually bend over backwards for your custom. They might think they want their commission but they obviously don't want enough to ring potential buyers back. If you want the property, you have to do all the ringing and chasing and ensure that the vendor actually knows about your offer. You never know, but the EA might want it himself so he won't want to put your offer forward.0 -
Thrugelmir and Googler, of course I could have but why should I? Plenty of houses out there for my £300k! My point was really about the EA - surely the reference I gave them should have spiked interest?! I they paid on commission? Errrrrr....? Also my point was about how the vendors are being let down, I mean it was a gift to the EA my call!
SuzieSue, I agree. They really are a strange species.0 -

Well, if you're not that fussed about the property, then it really is their loss and you have the luxury of finding an EA who does want your custom.0 -
Drop a note through your sellers door, telling them
- You rang the agent to make an offer
- The agent was too busy to take you offer and promised to ring back
- The agent has not rung back <x> hours or days later
- Your contact details

Oh I am fussed but it isn't the only one I had on my list of 4 - as I keep saying the point of my OP was how the EA, employed by the vendor, have really stitched them up by just not being any good at the thing they say they "do". So the house stays on the market for a while longer, tick tock. I am sure, if they knew, the vendors would be pleased. Just a frustrating element of life that is all and it bugs me.0

That's a very narrow view. From a far broader business perspective I find customer service generally very poor. In the main though its the attitude of the employees rather than the Company ethos.
In this country we seem to expect high service as consumers yet fail when it comes to performing our own jobs.0
