  • The first verse gives the 'square in which the painting is hung'. We know the square. Is the town in second verse the same town within square in first verse. If u know what I mean!!!!
  • I watch and I wait. I like the way you're all thinking, but are you even close?

    Who knows?

    I do.

    So I offer you this....

Nothing. For now. Some brilliant trains of thought and I want to see where they take you. Your minds are weirder than mine.

@kadrjd0304 'Mysterious' is my middle name. Actually, that's not true as I don't have a middle name, but if I did then 'Mysterious' is a good one. Better than "Danger' - everyone picks 'Danger'

  • Thanks r1dC0l1. Learning to use this site: slowly but surely!!! Your help appreciated.
  • The 'square' where the painting is hung has some museums, but cant find out if any have this painting. Most of the scenes in Teniers painting are apparently Antwerp, but as this is in Belgium......??? A mystery, wrapped up in an enigma!!!! My brain's like scrambled eggs now.

    A summary so far:
kadrjd0304 - A61 autoroute (a French motorway) south and east via Castelnaudary (r1c0l1 - from Sanctuary Dale) to the coastal Narbonne (kadrjd0304 - from Neon Barn), south to Perpignan (kadrjd0304 - from Raping Pen) and west to EITHER Romestaing (r1c0l1 - from More Stung) OR Montsegur (kadrjd0304 - from More Stung).
The above relates to Verse One which should give the names of four towns.
Verse Two should give the name of a famous painting. On that painting we need to look to find the name of a town ("read Sequence" to see what this means) and the location within that town.
    Which painting?
    Three suggestions so far:
thedokta - "Peasants merry-making before a Country House"
    r1c0l1 - "Peasants Merry-making"
kadrjd0304 - "Peasants making music in an inn"
The painter is believed to be David Teniers the Younger (thanks to b.lucky, r1c0l1 and thedokta).

I think the fourth town is Montsegur as it is located in a better position to form a square with the other three towns. It is also an anagram of More Stung, which Romestaing is not (although I understand the staing/stung thinking behind it).
So, I agree with kadrjd0304's Montsegur.

I suggest we drop "Peasants merry-making before a Country House" as a possible painting, for two reasons - there were two painters involved as it was a collaborative work and even the National Gallery doesn't know the location shown in the painting.
  • Would somebody who has already read Sequence clarify what is implied by the words in brackets, please?

VERSE ONE should give you the name of four towns somewhere in the world. VERSE TWO should then give you the name of a famous painting, where on that painting you need to look to find the name of a town (read Sequence to see what we mean) and the location within that town.
