The only place near me that took it was McDonalds... until their contactless reader broke, and now they've got a non-contactless one.

I read that, I think that is just the place where it will come in useful as if you're just sending 1 or 2 package(s) it will most likely be less than £20 so should hopefully speed things up.

I was in HSBC yesterday with someone who was asking why they had been sent a contactless card without asking for one. They were told by one of the staff that contactless cards were being introduced because Europe was making the banks do so. That sounds suspicious to me but that's what they said.

Not so, First Direct have sent me a non contactless card replacement today :-(

That's why they'll never be my main bank

Sounds like a perfect time to request a replacement card then, as I don't want a contactless card but they said I can't "opt out".

Because they won't give you a contactless card? Seems a little extreme.

I would not use it. The only reason banks are issuing these cards is for their own convenience; so they can make money from the fees they charge retailers for accepting them. I am not being sucked into their whims and fancies.

I still prefer cash and won't change until cash is (if ever) totally wiped out.

Good luck with contacting them, they certainly do the non contactless cards as they sent me one. So it's a poor excuse to say they are replacing all cards with contactless ones from now on.

I just sent them a secure message, saying please can I have a contactless card? One arrived a few days later. No problems!
