First Direct Conactless Cards

I've had a contactless card for 2 years, the only place i've ever been that accepts it is pret a manger at the airport. I didn't fancy a cardboard sandwich that day so I didn't get to use it.0

Fortunately, I've yet to find a single place that has refused a small payment.I don't think that Britain is ready for contactless cards simple because so many places have something called a minimum payment. I've tried to buy a bottle of water in my gym, but the person there has informed me that I need to buy at least 6 bottles, how stupid!Stompa0 -
I know a few shops which are contactless enabled, but they all say "Minimum payment: £5", which includes a petrol station.
So the minimum is £5 (according to various shops) and the maximum is £15 (according to Barclays). I don't see contactless payments getting used much with such a strict criteria.
Yet the adverts on TV you see people buying bananas using contactless technology, whilst flying through a tube.
Stompa: Which shops have you used which have supported smaller payments?0 -
Fortunately I have all my credit card transactions in a spreadsheet, so it's dead easy to extract that info. I guess it depends on what you mean by 'smaller', but I've made sub £5 payments at the following places (none were contactless payments):Stompa: Which shops have you used which have supported smaller payments?
Argos, Asda, B&Q, BHS, Boots, Budgens, Coop, Currys, F.Hinds (Jeweller), Goodwill Pharmacy, Homebase, Iceland, John Lewis, Maplin, M&S, Morrisons, National Express Railways, Post Office, Poundland, Rowlands Pharmacy, Sainsburys, Screwfix, Southern Railways, Staples, Superdrug, Tesco, TK Maxx, Waitrose
So I guess in the main it's the larger stores.Stompa0 -
Just thought I'd update this thread, I sent them a message yesterday asking whether they had started issuing them yet and they said that they are planning to start issuing them in early 2012.Thank you for message dated 22-Dec-2011
As yet there is no fixed date for the issue of contactless cards however the plan is to start issuing them in early 2012.

Looks like another card I'll be leaving at home!0 -
My card with FD is Full Auth, bet if I ask for a contactless card they wont send me one :-)0

Well, yes, although an RFID-blocking card sleeve should be sufficient. Everyone with a new passport should also be doing this. Who wants their details being swiped and reused by a random passerby with a modicum of RF engineering knowledge?
I am also with FD but don't want a contactless card at all.0
