In the end, after an utter fiasco, they decided that the previous three consecutive bills had to go over, so that on the fourth when the pricing changed, the extra charge would see you paying 10% more.
They completely pulled this out of their a$$es as far as I can tell and denied anyone who didnt fall within these criteria any recourse. But what can you do, here's you with your grievance over your £30 a month contract versus; one of the largest corporations in the world.
Just remember it when renewal time comes around.
I'll let you know how they respond. I've cancelled the direct debit, so they have to come looking for any further money.
Yes, this is up against one of the largest corporations in the world, but still have the Consumer Direct and Ofcom routes to go down.
And hopefully Martin Lewis' team can see this thread.

Let me get this right and if anyone can help please do. My contract is pretty new only paid 2 months. Lot of hassel in first month over my data allowence but was sorted before second month. My plan is £25 a month with a 10 discount applied and a 5 pound discout applied fo a data add on. I went over my data in my second month by 500mb so got a £5 charge. So when the new charges start ill get a £10 charge when it happens again so £5 extra. So if myaths are correct 10% of my bill is roughly £4 amd id be getting a over 10% extra. Is that right? And if so what do I do.0

I have just been on the phone to vodafone and they are saying that it is the month previous to you receiving the text message.
I received mine on the 6th of september therefore, it is the august bill that you work it out off.
And it the text message it states the website you can go too, if the website states vodafone.com/youbill you are not affected by the 10% rise but if it states vodfone.com/MYbill they you are affected therefore you can cancel.
Not sure if anyone else wants to call and check this to see if this is common knowledge or if Farrag who i spoke to is just making it up but he has advised me that I am affected by the 10% therefore i can cancel, due to the internet going from 500mb to 250mb, i would advise to call CS and be firm with them and ask for transcripts of calls ect.0 -

I said that I did not agree, and Clause 11(b) does not say that.
He said that the T&C's are "not overly clear", but that is the bill they will use.
I said that it was not the bill I was going to use and that I am invoking Clause 11(b) and terminating the contract.
He is checking with a supervisor and calling me back.
Got a call back from Vodafone, with an apology. They said they were incorrect in saying they would compare with the Aug bill and that I was right.
They have now cancelled the contract and given me a PAC code !

I've just had a phone call in response to my email (through the web form @ http://campaigns.vodafone.co.uk/guylaurence/ ).
I can confirm a few things (all completely at odds to what the CS agent I spoke to yesterday said!):
1) On my contract minimum call charges are increasing from 15p (flat rate) upto 1 min@call tariff (so 35p for landline/voda).
2) In-contract minutes will still be counted by the second, and so will not be effected by the 1 minute minimum charge.
3) The bill they use for calculating your % increase is based upon the date at which they send you the text message notifying you of the increase. (no doubt they purposefully send you the notification when it's most convenient to them; i.e. when the 'previous month' bill will register as less than a 10% increase)
However, it appears in my case they have used the incorrect bill !
The notification txt was sent to me on the 13th Sept.
To calculate the % increase they used my July bill (issued Jul 27th) rather than my August bill (issued Aug 25th).
The importance being that my July bill gives a ~2% increase, my August bill gives a ~34% increase!
:edit:
Incidentally, if the Vodafone CEO office are reading this thread (which would not surprise me).
Let me take this opportunity to say your staff are much better at customer communication than any of your Customer Care departments I've spoken to!
The Customer Care operatives i've spoken to have all been confrontational & ill informed, whereas the bloke I spoke to from the CEO office seemed generally helpful & well informed - and did not automatically assume the customer was wrong/stupid.
ONCE AGAIN: If you're going to get anywhere with Vodafone, use the above mentioned link
I should just set this post to auto-repeat for the next few weeks or so...
Sounds like some genuine cases are getting the contracts sorted, that's good to hear.
In all honesty Orange screwed up when they changed theirs; a lot of disingenuous (me included) customers took advantage. I think Voda's contract terms are better all round, shame their CS is so poor.I am an IFA, but nothing I say on this forum constitutes financial advice. Always draw your own conclusions and always do your own research.0 -

Hmmm strange because the guy i spoke to said that it was the bill before the text was sent, but hes already put notes on my account ( i rang back and checked he had ) and it says i am able to cancel.
Did they just cancel it over the phone to you or did you have to write a letter?0 -

So, the comparison has been done on the latest bill (Sept)?0 -
Any help at all?
Could u cancel on the increase in data prices?0 -

I cant believe they are doing this again. I'm one year into a two year contract and this is the second arbitrary change they have made that makes my package significantly worse than it was when sold to me.
Never again. They absolutely suck.0
