VENT On street charity workers

I really dislike the ones in Nottingham. I wear headphones and sunglasses to avoid all possible contact but nope...some of them have literally jumped right in front of me to make me stop.
They don't back off even when I tell them I'm deaf (since I am). I've got to the point where I just completely and utterly ignore them because one day I'll say something extremely nasty that I'll regret and I imagine being blanked is easier to deal with than being sworn at.
The NSPCC seem to be on a drive in Nottingham at the minute. I've taken to avoiding certain roads where they hover, waiting for naive looking people like me to come along.
Yep I've noticed plenty of them around Nottm recently. They are so annoying and often rude!0 -
A guy tried to stop me today and when I said "Sorry, it's my lunchbreak" and kept on walking - he just said "have a nice day"
He didn't even sound sarcastic :-)
They're not all bad ...0 -
I just show them 'the hand' as I breeze past, smiling politely.''apply within''

One made the mistake of trying to stop me just after I'd done a charity half marathon and raised over £1100 (as part of a group of 4). I was still achey and shouted at him for quite a while

I don't donate to charities which employ chuggers. That means most of the big charities. If they can afford to lose so much to the chuggers and the chugging companies then they don't need my money and I tell the chuggers this. I now donate exclusively to small local charities. The man without a signature.0

They are pretty annoying in my town but generally a 'no thanks' does the trick. You do get some that are a little tougher but I would never donate to them. I raise enough money for charity via personal challenges and sporting events that I more than do my part already.
The Romanian gypsies selling lucky Heather and the npower/sky/lovefilm people are just as annoying though.0 -
There's a string of these people on the route that I walk to work on (main shopping street in the city). They always have an answer, don't they?
I normally ignore them (I'm always on my way to or from work, not exactly a leisurely tourist or someone on their day off - I just want to be left in peace!).. but on the odd occasion they have collared me, they always have a smart reply... examples:
me: "Sorry, I'm in a hurry"
them: "Too busy to save the children?"
or
me: "I don't give to charities except if I approach them, sorry"
them: "but how do you know what good work we do if I don't explain it to you?"
or
me: "No! Just no!"
them: "I just wanted to have a chat with you about the starving penguins / badgers / rodents / other furry animal here" [looks hurt and personally offended]

Off the subject of on street charity people but Sainsburys are terrible for this!
You walk around the store and there always seems to be someone trying to get you to change energy supplier or a credit card trying to get you to sign up.
The two local ones I go to (Tamworth and Burton upon Trent) allow the charity bucket people to hover right inside/outside their doors.... I find it almost impossible to be able to ignore them - nowadays, I always conveniently seem to be on my phone in mid conversation (with no-one!!) as I am walking out of the store

I give £30 a month to various charities, one of which used to be Shelter until I found out that their MD was on £130k - how many £6 a month is that?!
A chugger from shelter stopped me and I told them this, they were shocked and said "that's awful!", I left them looking as if they were trying to work out that a lot of the money they were raising was going towards the salaries rather than the homeless.
I usually just say that I already donate to charity and they leave me alone!0 -
I just say I'm sorry i haven't got a bank account!
That stops them completely. The best portion of your life will be the small, nameless moments you spend smiling with someone who matters to you.0
