VENT On street charity workers

Am I just getting grumpy in my increasing age or does anyone else get really annoyed with these charity folk that stand in the city centre and jump in front of you trying to get you to sign up to pay money to charity?

I politely say 'no thanks' but they seem to try block your route and start waffling to you anyway.

You steer yourself around one, to then be faced with another about 10 feet further down who does exactly the same

They are very likely not even working for the charity. The Charities hire people to stand in the street and accost people, known as "chuggers".

And the commission they earn is shockingly high. How charitable!
I used to work for a Zoo, which was also a registered charity, and as such they paid NMW an not a penny more to keep enough money going to the right places!

I hate these people on my lunch hour. Especially when you ignore them and they proceed to carry on following you around talking at you.

In the shopping centre near to where i live they stand at the bottom of the escalator and as you're going down it's like entering the teeth of a dragon, you can't cross the road, they're there waiting to pounce.

I cannot bear being bothered whilst about my own business by anyone, including charities. Charities tend to employ young and over-enthusiastic pups who need a cause to jump onto the back of, although I do realise that charities do get regular donors this way.

I prefer to pick my own charities and donate online, getting the tax back in the process.

I generally have ear phones in listening to music, so I tend to ignore them and walk around them.

When I was at uni, I went to Manchester, one asked as I was in a rush to get my train after shopping, I said I was busy, he rudely said, oh yeah cause you look really busy shopping.

I got accosted by one yesterday in Camden, I had some really heavy music playing in my ear, so I didn't hear what he said, but he almost followed me!

Edit: sometimes I say I've already done it last week, earlier today by another one of you!

I don't have anything to do with Chuggers. IIRC, in many cases the first years subscription that you pay goes as commission to the company that signed you up. Much better to organise your own direct debit in my opinion. Plus they are invariably rude and too aggressive.

I get really annoyed with them and am amazed that anyone would give their bank details out in this way. I just say that I have charities that I already support but that often doesn't stop them.
