VENT On street charity workers

I have no problem with a charity adopting the pushy and aggressive methods of the commercial world, as long as they accept that I'll respond to them accordingly. Perhaps the mistake is in paying 'big bucks' for someone to introduce inappropriate tactics that don't work.
I'll judge them by how effective and efficient they are, as you would a business, and in adopting the tactics of the business world, it is appropriate to judge them accordingly.Never ever give your card details to anyone over the phone, and check the reputation of any company you do intend to give them to.0 -
Hate it too.
I was walking through the shopping center on the way to the bus station, rooting around in my bag for my bus ticket, and walked past a charity display with collectors and posters on boards etc and one of them shouted out sarcastically "Lost something??" making out like I was pretending to have not noticed them so I wouldn't have to donate.
Over the course of the week, I'd walked past them 5 times already, I am not ashamed to walk past collectors without donating, we barely have enough money for our family, but I really resented him trying to make me look like an !!!."There is no substitute for time."
Competition wins:
2013. Three bottles of oxygen! And a family ticket to intech science centre. 2011. The Lake District Cheese Co Cow and bunny pop up play tent, cheese voucher, beach ball and cuddly toy cow and bunny and a £20 ToysRus voucher!0 -
I find "I'm not a uk tax payer" does the trick.0

I find being pregnant and looking pee'd off usually does the trick...
Wonder what I'm gonna do when the baby drops..."Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."

Not so much chuggers, but the following works:
Them: Can I ask a quick question?

yes it will, quite easily
I suppose 3 x £35k might get you an ex LA 1 bed hole somewhere in the syringe-strewn wastelands of east London. Why would someone at top managerial level take such a massive drop in lifestyle when they could earn several times that?
This is a serious point; if you advertise for a position in the salary range £30-£40k in London you will not get applicants with senior management experience. PAs and secretaries can earn more than this. I would expect the head of a charity like Shelter to have extensive experience of budget management, knowledge of housing law, charity tax loopholes, marketing, political lobbying and to have run an organisation of similar size. It is not a job for amateurs. They are an EYESORES!!!!0 -

1) You can get mortgages for up to 4-5x salary.
2) You assume no deposit
3) You are correct about salary, I just wanted to say you can get a place in london for that money (albeit v small/ good area or a big house/ !!!!!! area)

I don't have time to read all the messages in this thread so apologies if this has already been mentioned.
All F2F (Face to Face) fundraisers must comply with best practice as laid down in a code of practice drawn up by the Institute of Fundraising. The Institute of Fundraising develops codes of practice for all methods and aspects of fundraising in the UK.
This video explains how it should work http://vimeo.com/13855448
If your fundraiser has contravened this code you should start by complaining to the charity they are raising funds for - More details can be found here

I'm a professional fundraiser, mainly grant applications and events, but sometimes help out at street collections outside shops. Over the years I've developed a thick skin and don't take refusals personally so dont be embarassed about not giving money or signing up. If only well all had enough cash to give to everyone who asked! Just be honest and polite back. It can be a tough, soul destroying job, especially on a cold, rainy day, so a friendly smile as you say Not today is much appreciated!NSD 0/150
