  • In the post for tomorrow in an hour. Its very easy to do online and get the pac code from them, your credit will be useful hile waiting for the switchback to tmobile.

Pc for free voicemail on android or iphones use Hullomail (free app)

I may not like tmobile a lot, but they are a good company to work for and at least the data charges are free and uncapped as such in the uK

    Thank you ColdStreamer :)

I look forward to when it arrives, hopefully its easy online to setup, transfer number and request pac code.

funny thing is I have 2x contracts and another 1x p&g with T-Mobile and all I want to do is keep my current number! hopefully it all goes smoothly from here and its easy enough to get it all back again on my other contract.

    cheers again!
oh... and welcome to MoneySavingExpert :money:
  • when you get the card tomorrow hopefully, register it on giffgaff.com then go to community and type pac code, it will tell you how to port in and port out number. Good luck
  • wouldnt mind a thanks for all this though?

  • got my giffgaff sims thecoldstreamer :)

thanks again for doing that for me!
just now I'm not sure when would be best time to use my pac code and port out...

I don't want to get charged extra if I leave before any contracts? My Sim only card next payment is on 28th Sept.
but in my actual payments they are 13th of each month...

would they charge me if I port out now? then back in again?

They charge you for the next 30 days after you give them a notice or request the PAC.
I'd give the PAC to the new provider about 5-7 days before 30 days expire. You can do this earlier if you want, but you'll be charged for the full 30 days regardless.

To keep it short, ive just come out of a contract with t-mobile, and found a great t-mobile deal online for a handset I want, however t-mobile upgrades/retentions couldnt match the deal, so ive had to cancel and start a new contract via a 3rd party website.

Ive got a very memorable number, will it be possible to "move" the number from my t-mobile contract ive cancelled, to the new t-mobile contract ive started, or will it need to go "outside" the network first?

To port a number the old number MUST STILL BE ACTIVE! You PAC is useless if the old number has been disconnected as you mentioned.

All this nonsense about porting to other networks.... Give over.

Ask Tmobile to switch you to PAYT. Wait 24 hrs then ring up saying you want to move from payt to contract.

However if what you've posted is correct.

Contact the new supplier, cancel the new deal (As you cant port one number ontop of another), and once you've got an active account on the old number (either PAYT or contract), then give them the PAC code ***BEFOREEEEE*** you set up the contract

At the moment you've effectively been given a temporary number, until you port yours across. Networks dont issue temporary numbers. What you actually have is a new contract with a new number.

How do i know? ex voda emp: 3 and a half years dealing with vodafone customers who actually listen to what CPW and F4U have to say about the issue, when all they want is commision.

I do think you are being a little unfair. Number porting is complex, and I certainly would't be playing around with double or near-concurrent transfers for fear of losing a number. I certainly leave it for at LEAST a month to let things settle down. Porting has a notional cost of £30 which the networks currently absorb. Doing chain ports is risking the number. and possiblybaiting the networks to introduce charges. Whilst T-Mobile and Orange are notionally the same company (Everything Everywhere) their network and back-office systems are still completely seperate, with no published plans for either branding to be lost (ATM).

As other people have mentioned, the reason for doing this is because it is the only way to transfer a number from one tariff to another when they are both on the same network. I really don't see why mobile networks can't port your number internally within their network.

The whole reason for doing this is again the mobile network's fault. They offer the best deals for new customers and only offer mediocre deals for those renewing. I'm sure there are many people who prefer not to have hassle and just upgrade their contract but many people like to get the best deals and the best deals are simply ones obtained as a new customer. If mobile networks really do reward loyalty then the deals for upgrading a contract should be as good or better than a new customer.
