please can I ask a question which seems a bit relevant to this thread title :)

I'd love some advice about the chicken and sweetcorn pie that a lot of the OS regulars seem to make out of a rubber chicken after the roast meal. I would very much appreciate a recipe for it, if anyone can be bothered to type one out for me!

    Many thanks in advance :)

    Hey ZippyChick :D
I am so happy with the results I got :T I will be doing it again for sure. I took the chicken out this morning and put the bones and scraps back in, bunged in an onion and a bay leaf along with the celery and carrot I had done the chicken on top of and some more water and left it on all day while I was out. I have just strained it and I have some yummy smelling stock now :T Going to be reading the link about stock to soup next! Thanks so much for all of your help  So far I love the OS things I have tried and I have a jumper on and my heating is OFF!
    :rotfl:

Great news! Get yourself a hot water bottle, and you are elected! :j:D

So you were pleased with the chicken then? Do let us know how it goes. I used my last stock to make leek and potato soup using this method of Thriftladys :) Just double up quantities as required. Nice with some bacon fried in at he start or some cooked ham thrown in at the end (usually off a hock). Meat isnt necessary IMO as it's so yummy and filling as it is. Even my Mum says it's her new favourite soup :D

Yep very just hoping the chicken fried rice OH has decided to make tomorrow is tasty too :-) The soup looks yummy, my butcher does a really cheap bag of bacon bits that would work well (I'm more OS than I thought I have a butcher lol!)
Just wondering what to attempt next now I have the bug lol :rotfl:
My house is disgraceful at the mo so it might have to be the fly lady thread next!
Oh and I have a hot water bottle it's in a fluffy blue cover!! :T
Happy Wife and Mother :-) DD is 7 bump is due in July and DH is 40.

    Brilliant:j:T

Sure one step at a time!

I recommend a ham hock to make lentil soup and you can pick a whole load of ham off which you could use for home made pizza topping, and hock meat also freezes well :D Or you could use for sandwiches or fried rice or with pasta and cheese sauce and brocolli or a ham and sweetcorn pie . Loads!:j:D

    chicken fried rice

Ham hock , pig and bargain food

You will be hooked in no time. :A

Edit - and one of my hot water bottles is pink fluffy. The other has no cover as ihave asbestos skin. The mini one is now used for the cat :D

    Hello All,

I am hoping to put the chicken Whole in to the slow cooker, do i put it in dry or put a bit of water at the bottom or immerse the whole thing in water so it boils? Sorry i am clueless?

I was going to put it on some onions, fresh sage and maybe some garlic under the skin do you think this will work?

One last thing how long shall i leave it in there for? Its not a big chicken about 1.5kg

    Thank you all x x

  • Hi. I do this but put the chicken in upside down so the breast is sitting on the bottom. I put it on low whilst I am at work all day and it is fine. I dont put anything else in with it as it cooks in its own juices and I can then use the chicken anyway I wish - HTH

We put a cup or so of water in the slow cooker and then pop the chicken in and let it cook all day. Don't really have a specific time, but usually cooks about 8 hours in our house. LOL

I usually but some butter on skin and squirt some lemon juice over it, and put on high for about an hour if I have time and then leave on low for 8 hours or so.
