Apologies if this has already been asked (I looked but couldn't see anything), if I wanted to make sweet trees to sell would I need some sort of insurance? I'm new to all of this and don't know how it all works, so if some lovely person could point me in the right direction I would be very gratefulMaking money for Christmas 2012!0

To clarify to a complete novice!
If you coat the ball in chocolate first do you let it harden before dabbing the malteser with chocolate to stick to it.
If you use icing sugar to stick sweets what sort of consistancy do you mix it with water to?
Lastly, any suggestions on what the stick can be supported in the pot with that I may have at home, don't have clay or plaster of paris yet.
Thank you in advance for anyone who helps me.:j0 -
Sorry Monkeytalk I'm mainly a lurker! Hope you've sorted it now it's just weight require to stop your tree from toppling over and keep the dowel in place.
I've not made any yet bought some bits to do for easter but as usual for me I ran out of time so ended up with sweet bouquets instead. First attempt but they were very well receivedv:)
Hope somebody be long shortly to help you. Although it seems very quiet on the boards this week I'm feeling a little lonely:( or a geek:(The secret of Christmas

Not been into the forums much this week but will try to answer for you. I brush the chocolate on the ball in sections (obviously the section I am about to put sweets on), then dip the sweet in the chocolate and place on the ball. You may have to hold it in place for a short while. The icing sugar/water mix should be very thick - you could also add a little CMC/Tylo to make it a firmer glue. You will need some patience as the sweets can start to slide off.
You can support the stick with anything, chocolate, stones - coloured or otherwise, as Nanamia said it is only to hold the ball in the pot and stop it from falling over.
Hope this helps0 -

I would use icing sugar to put the wine gums etc on a ball.
The best way for the least cost would probably be the larger sweets (large buttons etc. and if you can find them on offer) as obviously it takes less to cover the ball. Also look out for any sweets you can get from supermarkets on special offer - either big packets or 3 small packets for a pound. You could search sweet wholesale web sites and see if they have any offers on the go.0 -
I absolutely love the look of these sweetie trees, gonna have a go at making some for my wedding, just bought 10 Skurar plant pots from Ikea they look perfect, can fill the bottom with plaster of paris to stop the dowel moving, and the top lacey bit with sweets, look really easy to make cant wait to have a go :j0

They are easy to make, just time consuming. The only thing to look out for if using plaster of paris is that it gives off a moisture so make sure you cover the plaster with clingfilm, quite a bit of tissue paper or something like that to avoid the sweets getting wet. Good luck sure they will be great0 -
Hello everyone, I have a quick question, on different shaped sweets (such as liquorice alsorts) how do you disguise the gaps? Or even make them not be there!! Thanks, Jessica.0
