  • Morning

Made my first sweet tree this weekend, did a Liquorice Allsorts one and as a practice and it turned out quite nice. However I would like to do the colourful cable tree but cannot find where to get the sweets from, can anyone help? Thanks
  • I have everything to make one of these sweet trees, but I'm not sure how to make the stick stand up in the pot in order for it to stay strong for the sweets! Preferably looking for a low cost way to do this! Thanks for any ideas

I think people have been using plaster of Paris or air drying clay. I'm sure somebody will be along soon with some good advice :-)

  • Hiya,

I have recently started making these and i use melted chocolate. It's a bit fiddly to start with but i melt 100g chocolate for an 8/10cm cube vase (buy supermarkets own range 20-50p per 100g) then pour the melted chocolate into the vase. I put the vase in the fridge for a little while until it starts to harden then put the wooden dowel into the centre, if the chocolate is still too runny then I put something either side of the dowel to steady it and then leave until it sets hard.

I normally have a layer of about 1 inch chocolate in the bottom of my vases.

    It works great!
  • Hi,
we make these for table enter pieces for our weddings, we use plaster of paris in the pot to keep the dowel in place then add some tissue paper and sweets on top of the plaster, polystyrene balls from 80mm to 150 mm depending on the sweets we use. I also use royal icing sugar to stick most sweets on and add food coloring to change the colour of the icing so the ball doesnt show through.
if using wrapped sweets we use a hot glue gun

now im going to be a pain here, and im not sure if this is against forum rules, well the 2nd bit

    2 things......

how much roughly does one of these cost to make, im thinking about asking a friend to make one for me, and i dont know if he has a glue gun, but im sure we can get the rest of the stuff

    2ndly - and more importantly
if my friend cant make me one, would it be possible for someone on here to make me one for costs plus a little profit,it would be for the missus?,
I have dyspraxia so i have no hope of making one of these, and i think the home made touch is better than going to a company and paying through the nose

    just let me know

    thanks

    Hey all!

Have been wanting to make one of these for ages, and with mothers day coming up i've decided its a good excuse :) But I've left it too late to order some balls online.. does anyone know where I can get them?

Tried wilkinsons, B&Q, homebase, The range.. about to try hobbycraft now but I don't think they have big ones (7, 8, 10cm).

Please help if there is somewhere obvious I should consider :D
    Thanks!

I have just made my first tree and it turned out lovely, plan to make more. I got my polystyrene ball from Hobbycraft and it was about 10 or 12cm
