No sunday trading hours laws in Scotland?
Only on alcohol, but the stores are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

I've just returned from a *Scottish Tesco, where I picked up my bargainous £3.75 Disney Princess Light Up Mirror courtesy of these fab forums. VERY interesting conversation with the entertainment and tech manager (for some reason he was on the tesco direct desk). He told me that EVERY 24 hr Tesco in the country will be shutting at 10pm tonight as there has been a 'major problem' on the system and the stores needed to shut to rectify it. I enquired further and all he could tell me was that it was something to do with repricing of stock and there were to be 'lots and lots of reductions'. He even said to me that if I was in the area at 6am I should pop in as his store had 'lots of stuff to shift'. I won't be anywhere near tesco tomorrow but I am VERY intrigued to find out if there's a connection between this and all these quite frankly bizarre electrical prices!?

*pm me for the store, don't want to post publicly as I have mentioned a member of staff.

I was told that Tesc0 had gone overboard on ordering stock for Christmas and they have even more Christmas stock coming in (perhaps their systems re-ordered their Christmas stock orders? by accident) She said they are having a major change around and alot of stock had to be shifted for the new stock to go out.

Not a pricing error but sounded to me like they have way too much stock coming in. HTH

Ours closes at 4pm but I bet their night shift will be trundling out the stock. Do I set my alarm incase of bargains? Hmmm

  • The ones near me open at 12.01 so if I stay awake during the American footy tonight then Mr T will be privvy of my presence at 12.01 and I will report back
  • Did you get compo?

Every case is different, it depends I guess what your complaint is about.

If staff refused to give you the item that was on sale (like my case) then you deserve compensation... I imagine (£20 voucher) ...

There are people out there that were told the products will be given to staff and not offered to customers surely they deserve something too...
  • Been in H*ll St St3phens today, looking at laptops/netbooks. They said they have some at cheap prices, but have been taken off sale as they think it is a glitch not the correct prices.
The laptops did not suddenly come down from £400 to £50 each, they will have been something like 300, 200, 150, then 100 - the Tesco staff know this and have probably been keeping them back from selling to customers for months when many would have been bought at the higher prices. They seem to think because they pay for them it's not stealing, but their job is to sell goods to customers - and when they don't and hold them back for their benefit - obtaining goods by deception IMO, a criminal act.

Interesting. All close at 4pm in England and Wales. Always wondered why the smaller stores like Spa and Tesco Express can open until 11pm, but by law the supermarkets can't.

  • Don't all 24 hour Tescos have to close at 5pm due to Sunday trading laws anyway? Thanks for the heads up - but am I that eager to go at 6am? Gonna check opening time :)

I think I may have to, I'm talking myself into it;) I keep thinking "Well I used to get up at 4am to do the NEXT sale so this really is no different"
