Nat West bank - can't get money out without card and card reader or over the phone!

  • I only have this Nat West account. I wanted to transfer, over the phone, to my partner's Nat West account and they wouldn't let me. I also tried to do it online but, as I said, it wouldn't let me without a the card and reader.

You can not have a card an e saver account so hows that going to work??

You need order a card to use it with the card reader.

dorsetlady - I'm not sure if you are understanding? You can withdraw your money, but you will have to wait until you receive a card reader. The card that you need will be sent with it - it is not a separate item.

Well I wish they'd told me this on the phone - all SIX of the Nat West said I couldn't get a card and would have to open a current account to transfer my money to! I'm completely confused by this!

You dont need to card reader to transfer between natwest accounts.

Basically this part "19.11 Withdrawals will not be accepted by any other method" is saying you can not make external tranfers from the account which you are attempting to do.

The people I spoke to on the phone said I did and it won't let me do it online without it! If you know better please tell me how.
  • I'm really confused now with all of this contradictory advice! If the Nat West bank workers say I can't transfer my money out I don't know how I can do otherwise. Thanks for trying to advise me though.

The staff you have spoken with are mistaken or don't understand their own products.
You do need a card and reader to make online transfers to 3rd party accounts but not to make transfers to other accounts in your own name listed on online banking.
That card does not have to be a debit card it can be an "online banking card" issued to those with an esaver but no current account. Just order them online.
    Here's mine

stclair - I am assuming we are talking about the NatWest e-Saver account. Indeed the T&Cs from which you quoted 19:10 and 19:11 are the same as those I saved when I opened my e-Saver a year ago.

In that case please can you explain how I managed to arrange online withdrawals from my e-Saver account when I have never held a current account with NatWest.

Edit: Thank you noh for showing all that dorsetlady needs!
".....where it is corrupt, purge it....."
  • It's been explicitly said once in the thread iirc, but to re-iterate;

We're not talking about a debit or ATM card here, but a specific online-transfer card, which is only used with the card-reader with which it is sent.

I have the same account as you, and I also have only this one, single Nat-West account.

There is a link in the Online-Banking screen, which lets you request a Card & Reader package to be sent out to your address.

If the people on the phone assumed you meant a debit/ATM card, and you didn't know better than to correct them, then I can see how you all kept going round in circles (as this thread seems to).

*EDIT* Ah, Noh beat me to it; Clock his pics, that's exactly what I'm talking about. :)

I've just logged in to check - specially for you lot - 'cos I'm bored
    Log in as normal
when you get to the main screen......
top LHS there is a list of options available - choose/click on "account admin".
On next screen 4 boxes in middle of screen - lower right box is "manage card reader"
Drop down box has two options "order cardreader" , and "enable card reader"
choose "order card reader" and click on button to do it - that should give you reader/pin/card -shortly
I don't want to go any further myself on the screens as I already have mine.......

When you get it you need to enable it before you can use it
so need to re-visit the screens above
