New Tesco DTD policy or is it R&R

This was just posted on the batteries thread but it seems to have not been picked up on so am posting it here.

Bought the batteries today at my local tesco said bogof but no discount on receipt so went of customer services and the guy handed me £3.50 I said i thought it was double the differnece he said no new policy you get the difference and the another one of the product
So what does it mean is it a new R&R:T:T:T

Surely this is a guy not knowing his stuff. So you buy a hoover, and they give you another hoover plus say £2 difference. Er.............surely not.Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies0 -
So how would this work exactly? If you bought an item and were charged 1p more than the SEL they would give you 1p and another one of the product however much it is?? Surely that will lose them loads! or have I got it wrong? Was this what R and R was?**** Itchin' for a glitchin' ****0

R+R was refund and retain, you kept the product and got a refund
