On contract it will be cheap if not free or at least similar prices of other high end phones.[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

The iphone will not be subsized Apple do not want this to happen because it cheapens the brand.
It will never be free on contract. In the US it is $299 on a two year contract with cingular. I doubt it will be "sim free" or pay as you go over here anytime soon.0 -
I know I would get mugged as soon as I walked out of the house with that in my pocket.
And by the size and cost of it I would need big pockets.0 -
It looks good, although I'm always put off as it's just another way of sucking you into (what I see as) the rather restrictive world of Apple.
The main thing that puts me off is actually the lack of buttons. Touch screen are all very impressive, but you lose the natural sense of guiding your way around, and I've never found a touch screen as easy to use or fast as buttons. It's more a flashy gimic than anything else.
Apart from that it does look impressive. No doubt the lack of file support (Ogg, Flac etc...) will still exist. And you'll have to use iTunes until someone rights a portable app.
Also it's all good and well having it play video, make phone calls and play music, but will it have a battery with decent enough life so that you won't have to charge it on a daily basis? From the specs, possibly. And can you replace the battery when its life starts to fade? Again probably not knowing Apple. A good product, but no doubt still hugely flawed."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -

"Cingular subscriber, for this device will only be available on that network.
The US mobile operator, now part of AT&T has nearly 59 million subscribers but there are 230 million mobile subscribers in the US.
Founder's tears
Outside the building, BBC News Online happened upon Steve Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple, who was leaving the keynote on his Segway:eek: transportation device.
Wozniak conceded that the exclusive deal with Cingular might delay the product's uptake in the market. "But I don't think too much. In the long run, it's not that big an issue," he said. "Rich people save then spend.
Poor people spend then save what's left.0 -

If they don't subsidise it then they will lose out big time. All the other manufacturers will now get their !!!! into gear and start working on similar functioning phones which will be more popular if subsidised!!!

It's exactly what you'd expect from an Apple phone.
Nothing much that you can't do on any other mobile phone, but in quite a pretty box and with some irritating limitations.0 -

IMHO they already have with the pda X phones - my SO has a really smart O2 XDA Exec that does all the iphone promises and more...and is on monthly upgradeable contract.
Don't get me wrong I'm an iPod lover, but I'll wait and see where things go re this.

who's SO got me an iMac after killing 3 compaqs over the last couple of years and is getting hooked on it0 -
apart from it looks quite nice, it doesn't do much that any current phones can't do apart from the multitap. But by the time it arrives in the uk, it will surely have been left behind.
only 2 mp camera
no autofocus
no flash
no 3g
lack of keypad will make one hand use hard
no removable battery
5 hour talktime
15 hour music time
no memory card slot
no usb slot for fast transfers
and probably no network subsidies
a lot of phones better this now
by this time next year, when it be available properly in the uk, it will be a very expensive phone, that will be inferior to cheaper phones from the established manufacturers0
