In the transaction log for it, what details does it have? just that you sent money and no other information; such as an eBay listing?
Also, when you sent a payment you get a receipt sent to you informing that you sent a payment. Didn't you get one of those advising that you did? if not, have a look in your account to see if there are any other email addresses added that somebody could have logged in as rather than your main one? (not sure if it sends the email to the main address or the one it's logged in as, so just guessing there).

Finally..... have you received any emails from Paypal telling you to click a link............

Good point gypsy...when a payment is sent from a paypal account paypal send an email to the nominated email address stating details of the payment . If you didn't get an email then it is likely the hack is via your email address.

I recently paid my fees an dmy email looks like this

You sent a payment of £67.15 GBP to eBay Europe Sarl (support@ebay.uk)

It may take a few moments for this transaction to appear in your account.

What must be disturbing for the OP is the curt way paypal have closed the dispute. Surely they have indicated why they have done that, even if it is something you wouldn't want to hear i.e. they believe you were responsible.

Also is £695 the sort of figure you are used to sending on PayPal - with no associated goods?

The second person down the line was given your £695 and then had £1500 cleared from him?

Is £1500 the sort of figure he is used to sending - again with no goods attached to the transaction?

It must be so annoying to have paypal shut it all down and say there is no fraud if they cannot give you the exact reason why they think that.
  • Thankyou all for your replies. I received another email from paypal today stating that they will not uphold my appeal and will not refund my money. However, my bank have.

I still have no idea how this happened tho, which is worrying. I am still changing various passwords and will never deal with paypal again after the way they have treated me.

A lesson learned tho in that from now on, i will be super careful what i do online, not that i wasn't before! But i will always use a mac now too as i ran a malware bytes scan last night that brought up seven threats. I plan to virus scan my laptop, remove all my docs etc from it, then reinstall the operating system. Afterr that i think i'll stick with my partner's mac...

I'd like to say a big thankyou to you all for trying to help me. The last few days have been horrible and whether i've wanted to hear your advice or not, you have at least taken the time to try and help me, which is so much more than paypal did.

I'm pleased you haven't lost out. The techie board can talk you through a deep clean of a PC in case there is something odd going on. I'd also change everything on your email accounts as well, even the secret questions. Do that first so that when you change other passwords it doesn't fall into the scammers hands.

    Your work PC ?
How sure are you that nobody has access ?
Is it connected to a internal server ?
Think where you may have logged in.
My detective crystal ball skills point me towards a key logger that has been placed on a machine you have logged in on
And I think the recipient of this money is lying.

  • Yep, I've got a friend who's just told me his bank account's been cleaned out by someone buying from Ebay, via PayPal, to America. Does anyone have any advice I can pass on to him please?
