The Statute of |Limitations covers debt sin England an Wales. if you have paid nothing towards them in 6 years and have not made any written acknowledgement, then unless there is a CCJ, the creditor cannot win if they take you to court.
The majority of the ones on my soa have not been dealt with for 6yrs or over, so do I just ignore those completely or do I need to send them a letter?Facing up to my past & debts

Actually, I do have one with Marstons which are adding daily interest and have added a multitude of fees and charges, the original debt being £804 and over 2 months has shot to over £1200. Is there a way to get this sent back to the courts and dealt with there as I offered them £30 a month and this was accepted in principle, then they told me I would need to pay £100 a month and if nothing then I would be visited and charged £250 for the callout plus £200 for every part hour thereafter, they have even told me that it is in my best interest to try and borrow the money I owe them from family and pay them in full
I'm not suggesting the OP should change anything with regards to paying her friends and family back. It's really a great thing that the OP is committed to paying it all back first and foremost. As these debts are important to her, they certainly should be in her SOA.
It's also clear that Cookiecrisp wants to know who she owes to and at what amount and that will give her some relief.
Letters have to be opened to get a clear understanding. I think that with the template letters and advice given on here the OP has lots of ways to make the letters stop.:)
I still haven't wandered over to where the template letters are but this is something on my list to do tomorrow morningFacing up to my past & debts

Well done for coming on here and posting. I am fairly new to posting on here despite being registered for ages. We signed up with the CCCS over 6 months ago and they've been really helpful. They'll talk you through everything and go through a good budget with you. The thing that really surprised me was that we were actually allowed to budget and pay for clothes, haircuts, birthdays etc when previously I would skip getting my hair cut for the sake of paying something else.
Alternatively make an appointment at the Citizens Advice Bureau, though I have no personal experience with them but I think they will do the same with you
Good luck

Thank you, I will call CCCS as it seems many on here get good advice from them, I to haven't any experience with cab but it is something I should get in touch with and see what they can offerFacing up to my past & debts

Not being nosy, but if you are sort of near me perhaps you would let me help you out.
I do alot of shopping from approved foods and have stacks of stuff that I have bought in bulk, that is part of my mental health issues, however when I am feeling well (like now) I try to get rid of it all, and i can think of no-one better than you.
If you only had to by fresh stuff for a month or so that would help right?
Hi again, I must had come across as so rude when I originally replied to this message but I was in such a rush getting the kids ready to go out I misread the post completely, I just wanted to say thank you so much for your kind offer but I could never take something for nothing I would feel a lot better giving some back if you see what I mean?Facing up to my past & debts

Hi there,
I'm sorry I can't be much help to you in terms of specific advice to your situationbut I really didn't want to read and run. I've read and subscribed to your thread and will stick with you for moral support along your journey.
You've been really brave finally taking the step to get everything down in print in the first place. Things may seem bad right now but finally sorting it out can't possibly be any worse than leaving it, wondering what you owe who and what the exact figure is etc. I have read some threads regarding the CCCS and they seem to be able to offer loads of good advice on where to start. Have you checked that area of the forum? I know when I began to tackle my debts, as awful as it was to see the full picture, it made things so much easier knowing what the totals were, what each APR was and when certain rates ceased etc. It sometimes seems worse to start with but being informed is so much better in the long run.
Please try not to be so hard on yourself now you have started to tackle things. You really do sound like an intelligent woman, with your head screwed on, wanting the best for your family. I have every faith in you as I'm sure others on here do.
Good luck

Honestly Cookie Crisp give CCCS a ring, nothing specific needs to happen as a result, the ball will remain exactly where it is now - in your court - but they will be able to give you the lay of the land regarding things like your debt with Marstons. I realise that you absolutely want to pay back those people who've been supportive and great to you (and they have been true stars) but while that is happening you do not want the other debt to be growing and growing.
Our debt was spiralling out of control as we borrowed from one to pay another, going to CCCS really stopped the rot. It didn't solve anything overnight but, once the payment plan bedded in, our debt at least wasn't growing.
I understand something of your feelings about the CSA and the absent father - I think part of the problem is that psychological connection that the payment from him makes back to you and the kids (speaking from my own experience). For me I almost didn't want my child to be 'tainted' by any form of contact. It is complicated and you have my sympathy.
You are doing so well.0 -
OK, I'm no expert but most of the knowledgeable people around here seem to refer people here for templates:

Hi,
I couldnt read and run... my mum was in this exact same situation when we were younger, my dad left and she was left with 6 children and on benefits... I know how hard it was for her so I know exactly how you are just trying to keep going and keep your kids happy!
It sounds like you are doing a great job and cant imagine having to deal with what you do (i am the same age with one child) but you are doing all of us mums proud :-)
Just remember though, when we were younger, we used to have second hand bikes out of the paper etc.... I remember one of my best birthdays was getting a whole £15 to walk round a bootsale to choose my present, it was great! Kids are resiliant things and I can honestly say seeing what my mum went through has made me so strong, so hopefully your children will grow up to be as strong as you sound. And I appreciated everything she bought us!
Everyone always commented on how well dressed and polite we were.... she always made sure that we were clean and well mannered, no things dont cost anything!
I hope you find some help soon :-)
Lots of love Z xxx0
