Kintore prices are a little daft these days too. We sold a house there 4 years ago at a 50% profit over 2 years. Even now the house we stay in at nearby Kemnay has probably gone up in value by around 30% in 18 months. Crazy!.0 -

The house was on Deeside Gardens, great size, condition, location etc. Offers over 185k, we thought we'd offer high because of the distance we're travelling to view and our timescales so offered 252k. there were ten offers and ours was the eighth!
So back to the drawing board - will keep you posted!!
Thats madness! Did you find out what the highest offer was? The knack is to view a property the day it goes on the market and make a good offer the next day. Thats what we did in our current house and we got it despite interest from elsewhere.
The other thing is a new build so you know the price you will pay although it just seems to be flats and townhouses that are for sale at the moment.0 -

The "very cold" thing seems to be a common perception. My wife comes from the Central belt and admits its generally no colder than other parts of Scotland and certainly no wetter.
As for the friendly thing, I find that people will treat you the way you treat others like most other places really;)0 -

Selling agent is being a bit cagey but our solicitor reckons it went for the mid 260k's.... We tried offering on one place the day after it went on sale but ended up just forcing a closing date! We've offered on three this week, with one closing tomorrow and another closing on Monday. Fortunately there seems to be more coming on the market now so hopefully the competiton should drop back a bit. The big consolation is we just got the survey back on our house in Edinburgh (which is getting remortgaged to raise the deposit for the Aberdeen purchase) and its gone up in value by a similarly stupid amount. Shame its all just money on paper....Number 86 - Stole a car from a one legged woman... I'm just trying to be a better person0 -
Welcome to the N.E carnival of ever increasing house prices! I live in Inverurie which has a good rail link etc. I think its not as hot a market as Aberdeen regarding property but i was thinking about buying a flat in Inverurie a month or so ago. When i did a casual drive by there were two other couples there already and when i spoke to one of them they told me the flat had 16 booked viewers that day alone! On the bright side you have moved to a really nice city, welcome to the neighbourhood, i have been in the N.E for 15 years and have never regretted the move.
Wait till you see the winter gardens!0 -

Any news on how the closing dates went? Keeping fingers croosed for you - hopefully the increase in available properties will help 'cool' the market for you.0 -

Hiya, thanks for all the ongoing support! We've missed out on four places now, but there are more coming onto the market so theres hope! Was begining to panic as my start date gets closer and was even looking at getting a flat, renting a room and commuting back down to Edinburgh at the weekends but the solicitor told me the place we were looking at would go for 1150k plus - offers over 85K! - so we've knocked that idea on the head and will just take our time to find somewhere, rather than rushing in. Theres a couple more I'm going to see over the weekend and it lookslike a visit to the Newmachar chippie is in order:DNumber 86 - Stole a car from a one legged woman... This will show how desperate some in Aberdeen are for decent houses! Madness!0 -
