Parts of Aberdeen are really nice parts are awful, i'd personally recommend if you move there that you buy/rent a house just outside of it as anwhere with decent house prices in Aberdeen are v. expensive

There is lots for kids to do but you have to be careful of the school they go to as many cover a large catchment

Many thanks for the advice! Did a whistle stop tour today - nearly froze but liked what little we had a chance to see! Pretty much decided - just got to check out house prices first.....

Fluffynit - do you get broon sauce in Aberdeen chippies, or is is salt n vinegar? This may well be the deciding factor ;o)

Been in Edinburgh 8 years now and still canna get my head round this salt n' sauce business

It's gotta be salt n vinegar all the way.

i can highly recommend The Ashvale (Great Western Road) If you eat the Ashvale Whale, you get another one free....now that's moneysaving, that would cover 2 days meals :rotfl:

p.s brown sauce available on request ;)

  • Go for it, move - you can always move back if you really hate it - however its only 2 hours drive

I lived In Newmachar for a while many years ago in my teens. One of my friends lived above the chippie while her parents were looking for a house to buy. I remember the smell!

I say go for it, although to be a true aberdonian you have to try an aberdeen buttery!!
I've lived here most of my life (except 3 years when i moved to study) and I like it, plenty to do especially out and about for the kids.
I would advise to rent until you get the feel for where you want to live, as there is nice and not so nice areas (I suppose just like every where)

Good luck and if you do decide to move feel free to pm me and ask advice on areas etc

    Scruffy :p

rowies surely scruffy :D my ds1 lives at ellon, loads of houses going up there and a good road into aberdeen
  • Ellon is nice but i would rent to start with too some areas are just a no go and you can't allways tell also if you plan to stay for a while check out the secondary schools Ellon is ok but if you go further north your kids could end up at peterhead or fraserburgh academy not something I would do.
