And they typically pay a lot less than city locations.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
The reason is that the accident rate for ALL sexes under 25 is very high.
That's only part of the reason.
In the late 1980s I was sponsored through university by an employer in a rural location which was difficult to get to by public transport so I bought a car. My first car insurance premium, at 19 years old with less than 1 year's driving experience, was just £153:p
Even with 25 years inflation that would not explain why similar insurance now would cost >£5k.
Here are a few things that might be factors:
-Insurance company / commission merry-go-round (currently being investigated by MoJ) see http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/spl/hi/programmes/money_box/transcripts/money_box_19_feb_11.pdf
-Claims management companies (no such thing then)
-Credit Hire companies (ditto)
-No win no fee (wasn't allowed then)
-Allowing solicitors to advertise (ditto)
-Courts which have favoured excessive and unreasonable claims. For example - in the Bent case mention in the BBC transcript, Although the court did say that the credit hire cost was excessive, it didn't ask why Bent need to credit-hire a £105k vehicle at all, when he already had another luxury vehicle he could have used whilst the damaged one was off the road.We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
The earth needs us for nothing.
The earth does not belong to us.

It might be worth trying for a quote with a really unfashionable car.
The popular idea that a small low group car is cheapest for a young driver is not always true. Amazingly, it was much cheaper to insure my 17 year old daughter to drive a large 20 year old Volvo estate with a 2.3 litre engine than a small modern Peugeot with the smallest engine option.
Why? Because old Volvos have low street cred so no-one under 50 wants to be seen dead in one. So the accident record of those rare teenagers who do drive old tanks will be excellent, unlike drivers of small hatchbacks who are crashing them all the time.

There must be another car that would be cheaper, dont think about image but more about gettng from a to b.0

ok guys just bought my car :j and on thursday i will be insured on it i have found that if i put my first occupation as a lifeguard/civil servant it lowers by £500 and then i have student as the 2nd occupation (this is true because i only do about 15 hours in school in work i easily do 20+ hours) also i spoke to some people in work and found out it is perfectly legal for me to mention that i'm a civil servant (non clerical) by doing this it lowered my quote by £500 on elephant for a year the insurance best price so far is £3200 roughly which isnt too bad tbh. I still feel it is alot but i need and want a car.
Thanks for the help and the motivation to keep going and not settle for the normal £4000 quote
I also rang up i-kube today they were very helpful and nice however they wouldn't go any lower than £4,500 apparently this was due to the age of the car and my age and then the price of the car (i didn't understand)0 -
Have you got the car yet? If not might be worth looking at a Fiat Panda...not much to look at, but really cheap to insure! What is pi? Where did it come from?0
-
It's bought i'm pleased enough with the insurance and the car is from a long time family friend who owns a garage, The car is £950 with only 60,000 miles and it looks new, he has given me a good deal so i took it.
On another note i thought i would see what my quote was if i had the snip and became a girl my quotes came out at £1900 with hardly any effort sexism on insurance claims is ridiculous in my opinion because after all at my age they are still a new driver. I found this quote with hardly any effort and didn't put other drivers on it if i did the same with me as a male it would be well over £40000 -
