  • Extremnely annoying - I really wanted one of these and Amazon flippin' cancel my order :(

Why do they do this? Do they just never have any in stock, or what?

Im really peeved off, with HMV.

I only ordered one USB for my daughter, as she absolutely adores Keane.
I phoned yesterday before going all the way to llanelli to pick it up, only to be told that the HMV in Llanelli hadnt received even one Keane USB... Bearing in mind, I ordered this about 4 weeks ago.

I shall now go and get her the CD, I wanted to get her the USB, thinking it would be a little investment for her in years to come!!!!!!!!!

Just so you know that I try my best at my store, we had received only 4 and they were already reserved before we received a memo about these kind of releases saying that we couldn't reserve them anymore, they are first come first served ... the first chap through the door wanted one but we didn't have any to sell, but I let him have my copy. Incidentally I wasn't buying it as an investment, just that because I am an HMV manager I like to buy things like this that are a bit different. In fact, unlike some other stores where you see mega discounts where they have a ring and reserve policy but then mysteriously 'can't find the item, must be a stock error .... ', in all the HMV's I have worked in (8 so far) there has never been any greed whatsoever with these kind of limited releases, and certainly no Ebay selling, just the genuine collectors who at the end of the day are the first come first served because we work there. If anything, when something interesting comes out (collectors box sets etc) we do our utmost to get more if we can because a - we love the product we sell and are just as enthusiastic about what our customers will think when the new releases turn up and b - if we can sell more of something due to demand, of course we want to get more !!

The thing is we offer a reservation service and sometimes it's only a couple of weeks before the release date that we choose our new release order quantities - with the majority of limited editions they are 'decrease only' and it's only a week or so when the orders are downloaded. Lynwen - yours may well have been the first order placed but the quantities are so strict that due to the size of the store they may have had none scaled out to them at all.

I aren't getting on my soapbox here, it's just that in my opinion as a manager and certainly in my store, we do try our best - but I bet for all the people disappointed about availability, I bet if the customer I served yesterday is a member of MSE he won't come on here praising my generousity ... in fact cynical old me, I bet it's on the 'bay as we speak hehe

Musicboy, what you said is fair enough and i wouldn't dispute your honesty but it's a bit iffy that after the huge mark up of the first USB single on ebay, that the second one is suddenly very difficult to get. I bet lots of HMV staff have acquired a few of these. I'm sure of this 'cos if I worked there I would do the same! (oops, did I say that out loud). I’ve just had my order binned by Amazon by the way!

    I agree with you Roony.......

When I asked Llanelli store about where I could get one in Wales, he looked on his comp and stated that there wernt any in Wales's HMV stores AT ALL.. there were 8 in Oxford (I think he said) and that was all he could pick up on his computer..

Being that there were 1500 of these, where the heck have they all gone??? I smell a rat somewhere!!!!!!!!!

These aren't exactly going for a fortune on ebay so if the HMV staff HAVE snaffled them, I think they will still be working there for the foreseeable future... ;)
