Isn't this all desperately sad. We are lucky nowadays having so many beautiful places to see, all within easy reach because of cheap air-fares, and all people can think of to do is 'jump in a taxi to the fag shop and straight back to the airport'. What a sad indictment of people's priorities in life and their horizons.
The OP seems to be saying she wants to do this to 'make money'. There are huge notices coming out of Dover port (and I assume in other places) saying that buying cigarettes in the EU is OK but selling them in the UK is not. In other words, doing this is illegal. Money-saving should not descend to 'black-market' levels.
We recently saw a little bit of this 'priority' when we came back by coach from our Christmas Rhine cruise. No time at all in a 300-mile journey to stop for lunch - 'there wouldn't be time to go to the Calais hypermarket if a lunch stop was built into the itinerary'. We were reduced to eating a cheeseburger bought from a stall outside the hypermarket, in a windy car-park at 4 pm because there was no provision for lunch and breakfast had been on the ship at 7 am. People have told me since that we should have realised that this would happen - this is what people want to do when they pass through Calais. We've been there several times, found nice places to see and to eat, and we'd never been to the hypermarket!

What 'fair deal'? They don't HAVE TO smoke, and they don't HAVE TO go anywhere.
Girona apparently has a beautiful old cathedral up 90 steps - I couldn't do it, can't do steps at all, but what a wonderful thing to see, and how sad to miss it by just 'jumping in a taxi between the airport, fag-shop and back again'.

well, given that smokers pay enough tax to support the NHS 90% we cant discriminate them too much. However Girona was a stunning little place and i enjoyed my little £20 day out.0

They should do. They're likely to use it much more. And then they can be seen on the pavement outside the car park (smoking not allowed in hospital grounds as well as buildings) in wheelchairs and in crutches, doing what they like to do best!

There's an area (just an adjacent field) like that at our hospital. Last time I passed by I was horrified to see about 30 smokers in the field - most of whom appeared to be doctors or nurses.Stompa0 -
Ive now stopped for 6 months:j but when I did, the cheapest was Benidorm. Around 18 Euro for a carton of JP.
Lloret via Girona, Torreveija via Murcia or Salou via Reus are probably more practical.
Margaretclare, as someone who has taken steps to fight my addiction, I can guarantee your patronising lecture will not make one smoker stop.
Only they can do it when they need to/have to/want to (delete as neccessary)
Our health service is also burdoned with drug addicts, alcoholics, sports injuries, work injuries, diet related illnesses, stabbings, wife beatings, car accident victims. etc etc.
All these are avoidable too.
The more help smokers get to stop, the better, but in the mean time, the government profits so if they can get them cheap-great.
The purpose of the trip is to get cheap fags. Gaudi , Dali and Las Ramblas may be another day.0 -
smokers die younger therefore less drain on pensions system = less taxes
smokers contribute enormously to the nhs = less taxes
dont mock them0
