dont agree, if a male/female has someone stay over once a week why arent they single, they arent contributing to the household or raising the PWC's child/renkelloggs36 wrote:BTW if anybody on Income Support spends JUST ONE NIGHT with her partner, then she is not a single parent

i had a similar problem to this last year (although i was not claiming benefit). my OH (now my ex) was staying at mine and eating, washing etc but paid absolutely nothing to us whatsoever. i came here with the problem and was advised that i was being taken for a ride. he was working full time and made sure that he had all he needed but it did not stop him helping himself whenever he wanted. i was paying for sky subscription for his football channel !!!!!!???. I am glad i came here it was the wake up call i really needed.
some people do genuinely not get any help off their partner. he never handed over a penny.I'm not a "SINGLE" mum, I'm a "DOUBLE" mum!:D0 -
my neighbours boyfriend only stays 'a couple of nights a week' and is often seen leaving hers about 7am in the morning.
we arent daft. but i know he doesnt live there. he did stay there all the time till he found out what i did for a living. now he is hardly ever there and keeps a low profile when he is.
bless. There's someone in my head, but it's not me0 -

Because it's the law! I didn't make the law, I am just telling you as it is. Social Security regs is what I mean by the law. It is notoriously difficult to prove, which is why so many get away with it, but contrary to popular belief, if you are on benefits you cannot have a boyfriend/girlfriend to stay over otherwise you are not single. If you don't agree, then lobby parliament about it.0 -

lobby parliament about what
can you post a link please regarding these regs
how does a sp having a boyfriend/girlfriend mean they are no longer a sp, because as far as I am aware unless 2 people living together then that person is still classed as a single parent

As already said it is very difficult to prove, which is why they can't do anything most of the time.
Lobby parliament if you don't agree that sp should not have anybody stay with them overnight and still be considered as a sp. For any night an sp has a gf/bf stay over, they aren't an sp. Most of the time it goes unnoticed but if it becomes a pattern, then this is when they will do something about it. they can observe you by sitting outside and watching but they have to have good reason to do so, and a lot of info to go on. i have done this on many an occasion when I was a fraud investigator with the benefits agency. sp has bf stay over three days per week and has claim closed due to this and is given an overpayment to pay back.
I shall try and find some info but it may not be online as it is the dss decision maker's guide that lays down the rules. The CSA one is online but I don't know about the Income Support one.0 -
I am just catching up woth this thread and am shocked about the rubbish that is being said and have some points.
1) deciding to have a child and finding yourself pregnant are not the same thing
2) there are plenty of ways to be usefull to society without actually being a taxpayer, raising children who will eventually be tax payers is one of them.
3) I bet most people who have posted here get something from the taxpayer, the basic tax credit is payable up to about 50k and EVERY parent gets childbenefit.
4) The OP has always stated that she was looking forward to returning to work ASAP and she is currently at college.
5) Why is it that the OP is getting greif but not her partner ? Is it ok for men to have children and not consider the money side of things.
6) there is no LAW that states that if you have a person of the opposite sex staying over then you are no longer single !!! how silly would that be please ?
7) this site is about money saving. Why when people want to simply know what they can claim are they slated, yet if there is a code combination to enter into hamleys the thats ok to try ? Lets just stick to the point, either we know how the OP can optimise her income or we dont. none of us have the right to dictate how the OP runs her life or how many children she has.
TO THE OP - congratulations. I hope things turn out ok for you. I had my first child at 16. I was a burden to the state for around 4 years but now pay lots in tax. My daughter wil also contribute towards the tax system

I agree what you are saying, I thought earlier you meant that SP's cant have a boyfriend full stop as then they arent considered SP's, I now know you mean as in staying overkelloggs36 wrote:As already said it is very difficult to prove, which is why they can't do anything most of the time.

as far as I was aware even if someone stays over 1 night then they are liable for the entire rent, but reading on here some people say they can stay up to 3 nights, im sure people dont know what they can or cant do.0 -
