This diary seems to be running out of steam. As have the wife's laptop and the boy's tablet - can usually fix most things but have had little joy with the former and no clue with the latter - even if I could get the darn casing open I think it's a broken circuit board from the rattling I hear. Currently stormlashed so am interested to see how the re-re-re-refixed fence holds up this time.
Can't seem to register myself on a driver awareness course (£85 and no points as opposed to the £100 fine and 3 points if I don't attend) online which is frustrating, can't seem to motivate myself to do the CPP form and despite the best intentions - exercise hasn't been very high on the agenda.
And yet it should be, the sleeves on my one good suit jacket have frayed beyond redemption, I can just about manage the sports jacket look for a week but have to lose some padding in order to get into my other suit - surely this should be some intense motivation for me to get my running shoes on. Sadly it hasn't.
On the positives, bills will all be covered this month and another chunk towards the summer's expenses will be paid. MIL has decided to forego her Easter visit and spend some time with us at Christmas instead.
Hope I can get this back on track but can't make any promises.2011: 301k in debt and morbidly obese (DFW)

Depends really. Do you like living like this?
For some people being in debt and apparently overweight are big problems for others they don't mind so much.
The culture here is very much get out of debt, debt restricts you now and limits your future.
however maybe you think differently. There are no rules as such. If it isn't a problem for you then ok.
Take care XXXXXNevertheless she persisted.0 -

Maybe try setting simpler everyday goals? Weight loss is MUCH more down to diet than exercise, so maybe watch your diet and treat the runs as a bonus. For the debt maybe focus on meeting the minimums and not increasing any and treat any overpayments as a bonus.
Then there's less pressure on you to do everything all-out at once. Once you've got into a long-term habit of healthier eating and careful spending then exercise or extra frugality won't be such a huge step.
It might not be a method that suits you but I thought I should suggest it. I understand what Buffythedebtslayer is saying, but from what you've said before you AREN'T happy with your size or your finances.Do you not know that a man is not dead while his name is still spoken?

De-lurking to agree with this. Mr Bloater, your running is an erratic all-or-nothing kind of thing. I don't think you really enjoy it, which is why you give up so easily. Also, I don't think it's good for you to run when you are quite overweight.
I used to try running until I finally accepted that I hated it and therefore would give up with any old excuse. Now I just go for long walks, which are just as good and much more pleasant. I also go for bike rides when the weather is nice enough.
I have lost weight in the past year by changing my diet. I eliminated all the cr*p essentially - the bread, sugary stuff, biscuits. I keep to low-carb unprocessed food as far as possible. It works, I feel good, never deprived, never hungry.
You will get further with your weight loss efforts by changing your diet, not forcing yourself out on early morning runs you don't really want to do.0 -
150 pages, almost 3000 posts, getting close to 500000 views. Certainly has been quite a journey since August 2011 and yet really how far along the line have I come?
I think buffythedebtslayer makes an excellent point - I'm not in a position right now where things are unbearable - the debts are serviceable not suicidal and the weight is annoying rather than alarming.
I'm in a good place now, and keeping this diary has given me much support for which I am very appreciative.
Today there are rumblings of potential redundancies surfacing at my place, but I'm not fazed at all. If (and it's a small, tiny microscopic if) the sniper is aimed on me again then I'll be able to deal with it.2011: 301k in debt and morbidly obese (DFW)

Hi Mr Bloater, I understand where you are coming from, as I was in that position at the beginning of this month. Weight and O/D position bearable again. I realised, however, that my pattern from here was to take my foot off the brake and expand outwards in all directions again.
If you honestly feel that you can maintain the status quo, then good on you, although if you are not at your correct BMI, debt to income ratio etc, you could be storing up major troubles for the future.
I have decided to make another stone lighter and a comfortable amount in emergency savings my new goal and keep on, keeping on.
As always it is your decision. Selfishly, I for one would miss your brilliant diary, which so often encapsulates how many of us are thinking and feeling.
