  • Hello Mr B, glad you had a lovely day out...just wanted to mention that next weekend (8-11 Sep) are the dates for this year's Heritage Open Days where loads of English Heritage and National Trust places open their doors for FREE! We have been to loads of interesting places over the last few years, took a packed lunch and only paid for the petrol, it's worth a peek at the website if anyone fancies a cheap but lovely day out :)

Fab diary MrB, have read it all over the course of today! I vote that you should quietly judge MrsB for drowning her sorrows, and not partake yourself - empty calories and all that!

You are making me want to start running again too, I lost 5 stone a couple of years back through a combination of walking and running. I could jog for 25 minutes non stop at my best, but got an injury and took 9 months to recover and haven't really got back into it... as soon as I've recovered from my cold, I'll have a go at some walk/running and see how far I can get!

Shed Tetris:rotfl: We play that too but hadnt given it a name. We do this when we are kidding ourselves we are decluttering - which in OHs case means rearranging his stash of wood -that- might- be- useful and me rearranging the plastic boxes and supermarket home delivery crates we have aquired into a different formation :) But I agree it does work up a sweat

Mr B you have fair made me laugh tonight think we are living in parallel worlds. Debts are v similar and OH plays garage tetris with the same level of success as your shed version - i am also a "deny deny" drowner of sorrows the night before a return to work. That aside well done on keeping the momentum going - I have listed 15 items on ebay this weekend, as as an alternative to striking myself repetitively with a blunt instrument - I'm away to crack open the vino!

Hey Mr B, have you thought about trying the running podcasts? I use the Podrunner ones, it's basically an hour of continuous music at a constant bpm. Makes keeping in stride loads easier :-) and they are free on iTunes! The couch to 5k programme is also well worth researching, there are plenty of free podcasts for this as well, and some good apps for iPhones if you are an Apple user. I used Get Running to get back into exercise after baby number 2, I can now run 4 miles in about 40 minutes and I am several stone overweight still. Runkeeper is another addictive app if you like statistics and numbers, and that one is free but does need GPS. If you have an iPhone, Podrunner + Get Running + Runkeeper is an awesome combo to get you going...

Sorry had to curtail previous post as Mrs B was approaching. To those recommending QOTSA - you're preaching to the converted, I've been a big fan of Josh Homme and his crew for a long while and it's been on the playlist for time. I've also managed to lose half a chin putting the count down to 2.5. This is also nice.

Hope everyone has a fantastic evening, I am faced with the choice of either of helping Mrs B drown her sorrows about our return to work tomorrow, or to sit there quietly judging whilst Mrs B drowns her sorrows, or.. ignore Mrs B drowning her sorrows.

    Lol

Put me out of the suspense. Which option did you go for?

  • If Mrs B HAS to drown her sorrows and we all do from week to week.....................how about getting into homebrew?

I have made wine on and off for years and it can save you a fortune!!

Best wine Ive made has to be the bramble and elderberry off allotment but kits can be good too.

Even if its not as good as "proper" wine I love to have a stash for use in cooking. Really detest having to go out and buy a bottle of wine when a recipe calls for some.

  • Hello Mr B!

Just found your diary, read it thru and subscribed:p

Altho i've been a member of MSE for a while, i continue to learn more from this wonderful forum and its members:)

You can also get cashback from Quidco from BUYING from ebay - for those ESSENTIAL purchases that are cheaper on there.

I spent some time on the phone this weekend, reducing our BT bill by 1/3 for an existing customer whose contract is soon to end - plus paid our line rental in advance to save a bit more.

I also had a quote for the Nortin internet security for £56! I've seen the disc in WHS for £23.49, so i rang Norton and after a little haggling, got it for £23:j.

today am in the process of seeing what money there is to be saved on our gas/elec bills.

will look forward to your SOA, as i expect these good folks can help you save shed-loads, altho you seem to be making an incredible headway yourself.

    Consider yourself followed;)
