Shows how out of touch I have become recently that I couldn't even remember my ID number for my online banking - a number I have memorised since 2001. Complacency is costing me money - also noticed the Home Insurance premiums have shot up £20 a month - and in the stack of unopened post was indeed the renewal letter and then the subsequent thank you letter cos I hadn't bothered to change it. Contrast that with the amount I battered down the car insurance back in the moneysaving days - feel like kicking myself! My next target is to cover the Vodafone DD on the 13th - that gives me 9 clear days to raise a relatively small amount. First thing tomorrow I am going hell for leather on emptying out sofas, coats, piggy banks and Mrs B's collection of handbags - I am on a cash hunt.
Thankfully I don't have to face the nursery until the 16th, and if I can I want to have the payment due them on the 1st ready as well. That's a more considerable amount but I have to believe that nothing is impossible.

Against my gut feeling, I told Mrs B. The reaction was entirely as I feared. I now have a depressed wife alongside the unpaid bills. It hasn't made it any easier, lifted any burdens or shone a light of clarity into the situation. It's just given someone prone to negativity and self-blame a massive dose to dwell on and keep her awake at night. I should have left well alone - in this case a problem shared is a problem doubled.

    hello again.

don't beat yourselves up about falling off the wagon, just learn from it and move on.

depending on when your insurance was renewed and the amount it has gone up by it is probably still worth cancelling and renewing elsewhere.

step 1: ring your insurers and get a quote for how much it will cost you to cancel eg. £35-£70 (big guess here)

step 2: use a couple of comparison sites thru quidco. gain cashback just for searching. see who is cheapest like for like, who has cashback and how much you can save

step 3: leave the robbers.....probably....and move to cheaper insurers:D

Hi MrB, I'm just a random member passing by with hugs :)

I found your journal shortly after my son was born last August. Your style of writing is great and I read you for weeks but then I lost the link! Just seen your journal pop up again in new posts and here I am. I'm not sure how far you are in your debt free journey but everyone falls off the wagon sometimes. Chin up :money:

Just spent the last hour tearing the house apart trying to find my paper driving licence for a loan application I know won't be accepted. Had to get passport instead - can't believe the level of chaos we have with our paperwork - I remember a time when I had everything in neat ring binders. Desperation has truly taken hold and I am fking kicking myself for letting the wife know. The shadow just keeps getting bigger. Have to wait 24 hours for a decision now on whether my latest quickfix plan will work. And I am more than aware it's not the MSE way of doing things. It's really come to something when the mother-in-law being here is the least of my problems.

Hi Mr B sorry to have been missing in action.

You sound quite panicked. Have you thought about actually doing a statement of affairs for on here? Here is the link

    http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html

It might help you feel that you are back in control, and make double check all the numbers etc.

Also is there a reason to do with yours or the Mrs profession, for NOT doing a debt management plan. The only reason I am asking is that there is a good chance you will be turned down for this loan, due the high amount of credit you have already, so you need to think about a fall back plan......
    good luck

Does Mrs B have any gold (or silver) jewellery to sell? Or if she doesn't want to part with it how about pawning it to tide you over?

Sorry to hear things sound so bad.I really don't know what to advise other than has already been adviced.
Please try not to panic as I'm sure there is a solution.
The 1st is always to look at all the incomings/outgoings...are there any you can cancel or get cheaper?
The option may be a DMP or similar as you can't keep living under this amount of stress and I can understand you not wanting to tell your wife but at the end of the day you are in it together and she already knew about the debt from months ago.
We are all here to support you and you sound very worried at the moment. You've got loads of us behind you and there is power in numbers so we will all help you solve this.

BR/DMP is the nuclear option as it would bar Mrs B from next rung of her career ladder and what I have to remember is that the situation CAN be sorted. I can't do anything about this month, and the nursery will have to have a late payment, but I can start laying the foundations for next month and checking that every penny is prioritized. We are still spending more than we need to and not keeping a close enough eye on it.
Today I have listed a few more things on ebay and cleared out a whole load of worthless paperwork - plenty more I can do but will have to wait until night when it is quieter round here.
Thanks to all those of you showing support - it is much appreciated.
