I will be paying MORE for another 16 years and get LESS for it. So because I miss out on the Governments concession by 26 days this is bl00dy personal. Whay havent they phased this in? So eventually I will probably cost the state more.

I have wondered this with local government cuts. Why didn't they say 'here are the proposed cuts spread evenly over the next 4 years so that you can plan for redundancies/re-deployments/reduced hours'? Instead the cuts were REALLY HEAVY in the first year and disproportionately hit the most deprived areas, the ones that don't vote tory. It does seem very personal.

Wouldn't the govt be in a stronger position if they tackled their final salary scheme first, particularly the conditions covering the posts of PM, Mr Speaker and the Leader of the House (all entitled to a pension of half their salary after 3 days in the job).

As ever I will respect other views, particularly Mr B, because I'm in awe of his dinosaur making ability.

Probably because that will save a £million or two, not the £billions they need... Although, "every penny counts..."

Oh, and because (cynically) that'll hurt their pocket not someone else's maybe?

My heart won me over on this one. I work in a special school and I simply didn't have the heart to let my children and especially their families down. We are, and will remain, educators first but every teacher knows that we are more than that. We care, we nurture, we mend, we cry and we simply make some children's and parent's lives better for them for 6 hours a day. So on that note I will not be striking. I don't agree with the government, I don't want to work until I am too old to do the above because I think someone younger may well have the energy to do it better. I want a decent pension, I have paid into it haven't I?
Sorry Mr B for hijacking, I am a fervent follower, fellow overweight runner and owner of one of your e-books. Does that qualify me for a small wee space on your thread? Hope so. x

  • Hang in there Mr B! You really are doing a fab job.

Have read Rubbing Salt. My, what a dark side you have, Mr B! Next on my list is Process of Elimination.

My childrens' school won't be striking. They didn't last time either.
  • Freshly showered and smug after another 3k. The wind made it feel like a 5k tho. I really need to avoid parades of shops on my route, was nearly taken out by an oaf on a mountain bike who appeared from round the side of the fish and chip shop with what appeared to be a steaming carrier bag - however, the chipshop had the shutters down, and I don't know anyone who would eat fish and chips at 6.30 in the morning. The kids are well into my running, they were impatient for me to go as they wanted to wave me off.

Today I play the annual game of Christmas Donkey Kong - scaling ladders and dodging tubs of decorations to get to the Christmas tree stored in the loft.

  • Glad you're back and running in the mornings B, wasn't nice not having you here first thing!

Schools up here have a blanket closure on Wednesday and parent's working for the authority have the privilage of taking a day's UNPAID special leave to care for them.
Not happy, i'm not striking but am forced to take the day off. And i don't think teachers are paid as carers they are paid as educators. The out of school clubs can't operate as the school buildings are closed as the janitors etc are expected to be striking too.
Backed into a corner and the last thing i can afford now is to lose a day's pay.
If this drags on then just how many days will we lose, ggrrrrr.
