Hmm, this price news isn't the best timing - I was just looking into ditching T-Mob for GiffGaff but all this talk of "goodybags" makes my skin crawl..
The concept of altering your package on demand sounds good, but wth is a goodybag? Do they still come with lollipops & a toy?

Basically I wish to ditch T-Mob for something cheaper.
I'm currently on 100mins, unlimited texts & unlimited data for a tenner p/m and I'd like to get that down to maybe £5p/m.

I require a relatively decent amount of mins (at least 60x p/m to all numbers), about 50x texts or so, and unlimited data.
(I very rarely use any data as I'm a desktop guy really & I loath facebook etc.., but when I do need it, I don't want to be counting, I want it to just work).

The crayola-style giffgaff site is a bit too childish for my liking, and while it's colourful, is very short on detail.

Can anyone who's on GiffGaff tell me how you would go about meeting the above requirements, spending less than a tenner, on a reliable basic (ie; you don't have to mess about to re-top up every 4wks, prices won't bounce up & down, etc..)

I'm perfectly willing to give GG a go, but I need to know exactly what I'm signing up for before I do, to know that it can be relied on not to change, and the GG forum doesn't exactly fill me with confidence like asking on here does (does that sound terrible? :rotfl:)

    Thanks all. :)

Giffgaff do a £10 goody-bag with unlimited internet (no slow ups for high use) plus 250 UK minutes, unlimited UK texts and they are looking at doing a £5 internet only goody-bag.

The price increase they are looking at is ONLY for basic call/text charges outside of the goody-bag options.

The poster was clearly talking about Talk Mobile ;)http://www.talkmobile.co.uk/pay_as_you_go_essential.html Not T-Mobile.

Not the first time you have confused them :Dhttps://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3364684=

No, 'This Poster' was talking about T-Mobile, the Phones 4U person AND the TMobile phone shop explained all this too me when I spoke to them about their service about 2 months ago and I read further about it on these boards.;)

Nope, actually "jhp" was correct, I clearly stated "Talk Mobile"

Got no idea why you thought I was talking about "T-Mobile"

It looks like Giffgaff standard rates will rise to 5p per text and 10p per minute as a bare minimum
Update August 26: During this discussion we've been asked what our bare minimum increase has to be and if we are looking for a flat rate increase only:

The answer to that is: Yes we are only considering a flat rate increase as we feel anything else would move away from us trying to keep things simple.

And part of this is indeed the termination rates, but that is not the whole story. You have to also include giffgaff needing to make a profit as it is a business and we need to money to invest further in marketing to get more members, and to invest in more development of products, more investment in innovation, investment for us to be able to support community led initiatives, development of features the community requests, etc. etc. etc.

The less money we have, the less we can invest. This is that circle I have been talking about before. If we don't grow, we're not viable as a business, if we're not viable as a business we don't have money to invest, if we don't invest, we don't grow.

As for having to re-open this discussion later again, then yes, that might need to happen is we go for the bare minimum increase now. And as I said, the bare minimum increase will also have an impact on all the things I mentioned above.

And so the bare minimum increase for us would take us to 10p/5p.

    Cheers,

Ignore all the "community" gubbins. They have an attractive below-cost offering, have become hugely popular very quickly, and need to start making money.

Free calls are being exploited, free data is being exploited. They need to act. The main providers can profit from enormous run-on rates when inclusive minutes are exhausted. Others, like Talkmobile, don't have this problem. Choose a great value bundle contract OR value 8p/min calls and 4p/ texts - not both. When a small provider gets really popular on MSE it doesn't always mean good news for the provider - remember Easymobile anyone? Loopholes and great deals are there to be exploited, and MSE-ers are very good at that. Unsustainable and unprofitable pricing structures will not last!

Please remember that 8p calls and 4p texts came first of all from Asda mobile in 2008 - not giffgaff, and this became the value base-rate that was copied by Talkmobile, Tesco Value, Family Mobile and of course, giffgaff. Now that Asda Mobile has gone up to 10p calls and 6p texts the others will follow, no question of it. It is a matter of when, not if.

The tiny providers, like icardmobile etc, will increase costs as their popularity grows. Landlines are going up to 3p/min as it is.

As we know, die-hard MSE-ers on here have no loyalty, and the moment giffgaff isn't the cheapest for their usage, custom will move instantly. They don't have any opportunity to tie people in by running a PAYG outfit.

Because you had said to me I'd posted the wrong thing but I had meant to post this. I hadn't gotten them confused, in my mind this is what I have read or experienced with friends and their use of either network: you had said had gotten them confused when in fact to my knowledge I had not.

Even if GG did increase the calls to 10p . The Free 0800 facility allows you to get them for as little as 1p a minute landline and 5p a minute UK Mobile at the present time
