Talkmobile - whats the catch?

Talkmobile offer some favourable deals on 12 month contracts.

Before I sign up, is there anything I should be aware of? My theory is that as they operate on the Vodafone network, the network services, coverage and data speed is exactly as it would be through Vodafone, only with Talkmobiles charging structure and customer service.

Which seems fair enough?

I wondered the same as you but am with them now, successfully and quickly ported my number, friendly helpful customer service and a reasonable web interface for billing and usage.

    My only observations would be:
    Itemised billing is chargeable (99p)
Calls to Voicemail are chargeable on some tariffs
If you deactivate Voicemail not all tariffs give you a "Missed Call Alert" (i.e. to persuade you to use the chargeable voicemail).

All in all a good value for money service certainly no complaints here - I signed up via a banner ad at the bottom of the page on this site - which has a competition for a Mini as an added bonus.
  • I was using Asda as a front for Vodafone and have gone to Talk Mobile also fronting Vodafone but this time on a 12 month contract as I wanted an S2. Bottom line is I pay £360 over 12 months for the phone and get 400/1000/1GB a month. The phone alone is circa £475.

Talk Mobile are tainted with the CPW toilet brush but I was with them a few years ago and they are not much worse than the alternatives.

So far so good and 200 minutes/500 texts/500 Mb data on a 1 month contract at just £8 is pretty good going and the car draw i posted above was just an added bonus.

Data speeds may vary depends if they use there own servers like what giffgaff do with 02 but everything else network wise will be the same and like you said customer service varys but who needs to speak to custmer services half the time.

icardmobile and asda also use vodaphone as paygo and much cheaper and you wont notice the difrance except if some one says what network you use and you say icardmobile people will say who the hell are they even though they are the chepest rates out there for Paygo.

But there not the cheapest to a UK Mobile, or for texting.

If you top up online http://www.vectonemobile.co.uk/rates/standard/national-rates.aspx beats them.

I thought T-Mobile used the same network as Orange, not Vodaphone: had no idea they had anything to do with Vodaphone.
