Help - Grease on clothes

There used to be a great wool cleaning product called Wool Mix by Martha Gardener in Lakeland. I don't think they carry it anymore, but it's fantastic for getting smells and stains out of wool. Australian product so not sure how easy it is to find....
Removes motor oil and grease from hands with no scrubbing as well... which we discovered after trying everything else in the cupboard0 -

Hi all you amazing helpful folks!
I got a new dress from the next staff shop for a bargain £18 but then noticed I got some grease from bf's chippie tea on it last week - I've washed it but there's still a mark on the front
Its mostly polyester so I was hoping someone might have a tip
The stain is on a blue bit so whatever I do I will have to do a patch test I presume.
Do people think it's better to try vanish oxy on it? (patch tested then rinsed as soon as the resting time is up then straight in the wash) or the dish soap method where you rub a little diluted washing up liquid on to it then rest, rinse and wash???
I know it's something a lot of people might not notice but I want to rescue it as I know its there!
Thanks in advance for any help!************************************

I've done this before! Never fear, all is not lost. Try any of the following:
1. Put cornstarch on the spot, leave for a few hours, wash as normal. (usually works best with a fresh stain)
2. Dish soap method you mentioned above. One of the most effective I know of.
3. Vanish if you've got it.
4. Final resort--there is a product called stain devils and they have different ones for different stains. I once bought it to rescue a brand new top that I squirted mayonnaise on when the bottle went a bit rogue--the one for oil worked a treat--although it did take a bit of faff and smelled strange.
Grease stains are one of the stains that tend to come out in hotter water so might be worth washing it in hotter water if it allows for it.
Also, try not to ever tumble dry something with a stain until you've removed it entirely. Tumble drying can set some stains (although it DOES NOT mean you have to give up, it can make it harder to get out!) So, just air dry in between trying the above.0 -
Hi,
does nobody use the hot iron and absorbent paper trick nowadays?
Really hot iron, and folded kitchen towel on the stain, press and shift paper as it lifts the grease, be sure to have a cloth over surrounding area to protect it.0 -
Sometimes I do--but I was worried it would melt the fabric depending on what sort of polyester it was. Is it quite a thick polyester, like men's trousers, OP? Or something a bit lighter? If it is lighter this trick may work.0

Thank you!
I would say its a lighter polyester but it does say do not iron so I would be hesitant to try that.
Our washing up liquid is blue so I think I might try diluting some then testing it on a harder to see bit - just to make sure it has no negative effects!- and then try that tomorrow night. It was washed less than 24hrs after I wore it so I am believing that there is hope yet haha.
If that one fails I guess I will try the vanish - again patch testing first.
I should have kept my coat on whilst dishing his tea up! grrr
Thank you for reassuring me that all is not lost************************************

I had this problem once on a light coloured cotton dress and dry cleaner chap told me to use fairy liquid, I rubbed it in neat onto the stain, left for half an hour then popped it in the wash, came up good as new!2019, move forward with positivity! I am the opposite of Eyeore :rotfl:0

Over the weekend my SIL found a oily stain on her maxi dress. This appeared after they collected fish & chips (Take away).
She’s asked me for ideas on how to get it out. However the label states nothing about the material other than it requires a 40 wash.
Its black and white, The white parts are now a yucky yellow colour.
Its stretchy - slingy material if that helps? Normal wash has done nothing to help.Future goals:
Become debt free.
Beat Depression.
Be happy & healthy0 -
Washing up liquid may work as it's designed to degrease.
