I'd use something alkali that emulsifies fat, like old fashioned laundry soap or soda crystals dissolved in hot water before washing at the highest temperature the fabric can be washed at. You can even get fat out of polyester if you use enough laundry soap, but without the hot water it's harder.
  • I use washing up liquid then wash immediatly with oxi wizz crystals as well as washing powder.

Thank you for your suggestions. I will try to remove the marks tomorrow.
  • Another idea for you to try if the ones above don't work - rub some talc into the fat then wash the item. I had splashes on a silky blouse (manmade stuff, not real silk) and a friend suggested I tried it. Blouse had been washed a couple of times with various soaps etc and nothing had moved it. I rubbed a bit of powder in to the area where the splashes were and put it in the washer as normal and it really did remove all the marks. Don't know if this will work with everything but could be worth a try.

Hubby decided to clean the grill of the BBQ in one of his best shirts  So all down the front is splashed grease which I can't seem to get out for love nor money even with stain sprays, soaking & washing several times - anything I can still try that will work now as it's been a couple of weeks I've been trying to get it out.

    Thanks, C xx

Thanks & sorry! Will try the washing up liquid first, but I may have set the stain now by washing it :o

  • A good trick is to cover the stain in talc, place greaseproof paper over it and then iron it. he heat draws the grease out and the talc soaks it up.

You can also wash the item instead of ironing it. I have done this with a top that had sat in my wardrobe for ages with a grease stain on it and it came out perfectly.

Thanks - I think now the stain is 'dry' after several washes that ironing won't do any good. Just about to wash it again after treatment with washing up liquid.
