all I've done with this picture was type "tiger tank" in google box

placed cursor on image right clicked mouse

    click copy

    place cursor in mse box

    right click mouse

    click paste

its there. should work on yours

Don't know anything about enhanced settings on mse. Maybe thats the trouble. I'm using vista

  • No, I don't have a photobucket account.

Ok, let's see if I can do that and if I can then that'll be a breakthrough. And if I can't then that's still good that you can do that, thanks for showing me that. Ok, here goes.

    Ok, thanks for that.

Well, a bit of progress, sort of.

I managed to open the picture on my own computer using that IMG address that I posted in the above message. Then I've been able to copy and paste the image into this message but then when I try to save it I get a message saying that it's 551,000 characters and to reduce it to less than 25,000 characters.

So I assume now that if I edit the picture to a smaller size then I may be able to post it.

So thanks very much, that's getting close.

Now all I need is to find my old copy of photoshop or I might try downloading that free one gimp that someone mentioned a while ago, and then resize the pic.

I can't find anything in my Windows Word to allow me to resize a jpg.

What I also tried is what you suggested about finding the pic on the net and I tried posting the following in the browser but none of them worked, I just got 404 file not found and server not found messages :

    clip_image002
    01/clip_image002
    msohtml1/01/clip_image002
    www.clip_image002
    www.01/clip_image002
    www.msohtml1/01/clip_image002

I assume that the rest of the IMG address refers to my own computer.

Or does it? Or do I need to use more of that address?

It's when I put the whole of it in the browser that it brings up the picture that I nearly managed to post.

Ok, so now the next thing I'll do is try to resize the pic, try to post it in order to get an IMG address for it then I'll see if I can copy and paste that. So a bit clumsy but if it works then at least I'll be able to do it.

All a bit odd. But computers are quite often a bit odd.

Years ago I learnt Cobol, Basic, Unix and C programming and I was sort of able to do it just about, if I tried. I've also made basic websites and I've done some video editing on computer and with a bit of help to get started then in general I can get on top of those ok. So I can do some stuff sometimes. So it would be good if I could get to post pics here.

Ok, well, that's that for now till I resize the pic and try again.

Unless you can think of anything else?

Can you think of any reason why I don't get the mountain icon? I've got MSE set to Enhanced Interface – Full WYSIWYG Editing so do I perhaps need to try the Standard or Basic editor? Which would be a bit odd as I'd expect the more advanced one to do more than the less advanced one.

    Thanks a lot for helping.

That's a nice pic. Yes, slightly on the large size, but, it's nice.

Thanks, ok, I'm going to try that as well, here we go :

No, it showed the picture, one of the tanks, in the edit window but then when I tried to save it I got :

The text that you have entered is too long (169394 characters). Please shorten it to 25000 characters long.

Yes, you're right, just keep trying various ways of doing it and then eventually I might crack it. Ok. Yes, that's the usual way with computers unless someone else can explain it or show you.

    Thanks again.

I tried a different tank to you so now I'll try the one that you used in case its size is ok :

    Nope :

The text that you have entered is too long (329796 characters). Please shorten it to 25000 characters long.

    Bollies!

Yes, that's why I gave up programming, I didn't have the patience for all the fiddling about and I wasn't quite good enough to get it right without lots of mucking about.

Oh gawd, and now it won't let me post just this text, I've had to come out of this and come back in again. Tedious.

Maybe I've got some malware on my machine. I get various funny stuff happening from time to time. I use Avast and I scan it occasionally, maybe I should do another scan.

Yes, it'd be nice to do pics on MSE. And vids and animations. I've uploaded videos to myspace and youtube and revver and I managed those without too much fiddling about. Oh well. Bleugh.

You can try tinypic too. You don't need an account to use them.

    You don't have this?
Thanks for showing me that, I didn't notice it earlier as I got distracted by the other picture and the help from FOX HOUND.

Yes I do have the yellow mountain button actually.

Right, I've just tried and it doesn't work for me so I'll try it again in some other ways in a minute.

All this time I thought it was supposed to be by the edit and quote buttons, not inside the edit window, and all this time I've never noticed where you've just shown it to me.

Oh dear, what a twit I've been. What a daft mistake to make. But probably easily done though.

Unless someone points it out to you, as you've done here, then how I am supposed to have found it.

Well, maybe if I'd looked for it a bit harder. Maybe.

And maybe it explains it in the explanations but somehow I didn't read it properly. Maybe.

I wonder why I thought it was supposed to be by the edit and quote buttons. Evidently somehow I made that wrong assumption. Maybe I'm a bit thick. Ok.

Yes I now realise that that's daft cos it has to be inside the edit window, not before you go inside to do the edit. But that's not been obvious to me all this time. Ok. Anyway.

Sometimes I can do stuff without problems but sometimes I'm hopeless and go all round the houses. Doh.

Thanks for this thread, Just my photobucket experiment. I did the same as FOX HOUND (upload it from my pictures into Photobucket, then simply right click/copy/paste)

Opps its a bit big, how do I get it to be smaller?
I love MSE freebies and comps. Thanks posters

Great, thanks a lot, bods.

Yes, so, as you said, I've opened up an account at photobucket, uploaded this pic off my computer to photobucket, then copied and pasted the direct link into the yellow mountain icon when activated. And that's it. Great.

After all this time and all the attempts I made previously. Yes, like you said FOX, keep trying.

And several times I searched in MSE for instructions and then attempted to follow the instructions.

So now I'm wondering if it's that I've been slow to understand it or whether the previous instructions weren't clear or maybe a bit of both.

Sorry if this pic is a bit too big, that'll be the next thing to do, work out how to make them smaller. I did that in photoshop a few years ago so I should be able to sort that out again.

And I think I've found that available in Word except that then I've got the issue of how to get a jpg in and out of Word. Or whether to get my copy of photoshop installed which would probably be better than using word. Or whether to get gimp or another graphic program etc. All a bit boring.

Right, anyway, I finally got there. So that's a minor achievement. Thanks again.
