M&S arn't listed on any price comparison websites. I probably should have stated this earlier(well as far as I can tell anyway) :D This is why I've worked everything out manually, I just assumed you were as well, my apologies.
  • i entered m and s fixed price as my existing tariff so thats how the savings are showing
  • I just did the same and it's listing the unit prices differently to what m&s actually charge for my area. And it's listing them higher so it's obviously having a negitive effect.
  • prices showing on uswitch are (for north west area)
    <LI id=ctl00_cphContent_resultsControl_ctl01_liPlan class=plan>marks-and-spencers-logo.png M&S Energy Fixed Price Dual Fuel
    <LI class=rates>
    • Gas unit rates: 8.295p per kWh 4.011p per kWh above 2500 kWh p.a
    • Electricity unit rates: 16.454p per kWh 13.608p per kWh above 900 kWh p.a
    * These rates include VAT- the rates on your bill may exclude VAT

    on m&s website

    elec

16 North Western Area first225 per quarter 16.46inc vat anything after 13.61 inc vat

gas firsty 625 kwh 8.30p inc vat anything after 4.02p inc vat

So the savings would be slightly more if uswitch used the figures from the m and s website.

  • They are using the figures for quarterly billing when i specificly said I paid by direct debit. When I worked it out manually, m&s is cheaper.

15.48 for first 900(primary is nearly 1p cheaper) and 12.80(also nearly 1p cheaper for secondary if you pay by direct debit, which is a significant difference ;)

In my region and on my dual fuel usage, EDF fixed 2014 is 5% cheaper than M & S 2013

    EDF fixed 2012 is 10% cheaper than M & S 2013

As has been said previously you need to stop worrying about standing charges and look at the overall picture.

As previously stated, uswitch does not seem to be taking m&s direct debit unit prices into effect which are much cheaper. They are using the unit prices you would recieve on quarterly billing. Hence, uswitch is inaccurate.
  • ok well i have just figured it out manually aswell. using the m&s direct debit prices will cost £1432.12 this is made up of 900kwh costing 139.32 and 10100 kwh costing 1292.80

edfs prices work out at 79.38 for the first bit and 1345.30 for the second part with a total cost of 1424.68. and this is before i take away the 6% direct debit discount

    I didn't use a comparison site.

I simply downloaded the pdf tariffs from both companies.

It's an easy enough calculation to do when you know your usage.
