Puncture wound/bite from another dog

  • Awww poor soul, don't blame yourself as has been mentioned, accidents happen.

This may not be very helpful (sorry) at the minute but may help if you've got a pet shop nearby (?) .... I keep a tub of wound powder in the pets' medicine box (yup, I do have one!). http://www.medicanimal.com/setSessionLocale/product?product_id=945&newLocale=en_GB&ptc=googlebase#inlineReviews

Obviously wounds still may need vet treatment (and would always recommend if in any doubt) but it's really handy for minor cuts/scrapes etc and as it's a powder they don't seem to worry about licking it off.

    Hope she's OK.

Bathe it in normal saline which is one teaspoon to a pint of water (boiled and cooled water)
Hope it heals well for you.

Really keep an eye on this - dog's mouths carry numerous pathogenic bacteria so the wound will likely already be infected. Hopefully her own immune system will do the job but if there is any pain, swelling or discharge take her straight to the vet for antibiotics.

What they ^^ said ;) I wouldn't try to dress it either.

I hope she is OK gr - she is a stunning girl - keep us updated!

I was going to suggest dilute teatree oil. When I got bitten trying to seperate dogs that's what i used and wound healed fine (but used neat on me!)
I also have wound powder in my doggy 1st aid kit.

agree with posters above, especially as puncture is potentially into elbow joint?

make sure you watch it for the next week or two. have you got any hibiscrub or similar?

I wouldn't advise using hibiscrub on an open wound as chlorohexadine can irritate open wounds, and delay healing. A very dilute povidine iodine wash would be better.

The same thing happened with one of mine when they had a bit of a falling out. He ended up with a puncture wound on his leg and retreated to lick his wounds (literally); apart from licking it he didn't show any signs of being in any discomfort and within a couple of days it had pretty much healed up

Damn, I forgot about THAT ....

Zara is insured BUT - Argos still did not pay for her Xrays since...,.April

I am off work now and have absolutely no money (or access to any) for the next 2 weeks (next JSA payment) so can not take her to her regular vets anyway.

The nearest charity vet is Celia Hammond where I could to by bus (I think I have about £2) on my Oyster but even there I will still have to pay somethng, cost price but still.

Thisgs like that happen at the worst times really.....

And again, why on earth I allowed this to happen....

Where is the "banging head on the wall icon"?
