Sounds realy simple. But dont you have to buy some kind of card and get it conected to your computer to allow it to pick up the signal?
How mush dose the cards cost?
Dont persume all computers are wireless ready.

Yes, if your other computer - standard machine or laptop doesn't have wireless built in, then you will need a wireless card. On a laptop you may get a card that slots into a card slot or a USB stick one. On a standard computer you can get a PCI card or USB stick. USB always being the last resort way of connection.

Telewest offer to sell a USB stick, but not at a good price.

You may find your current PC has at least one Ethernet connection, as you are hard-wired at the moment (probably USB modem) then simply hard wire the router using Ethernet - forget wireless on that one. Only use wireless when you can't hard-wire and not just for the sake of it.

For a desktop using PCI card from around £10, for USB (on either desktop or laptop) from around £10

You may find people on eBay selling them cheaper.

That is known as selective quoting!

Why did you not quote the previous sentence?

Want to go wireless so you can connect to the internet without plugging your laptop/pc in? If so you need a compatible computer and a 'wireless router'.

If you don't have a wireless compatible computer, there are numerous cards, adaptors and dongles to choose from, just Google.

I thought about getting the free router from Telewest, but then decided as I already had one and it's been very stable, I'd leave it, although the Telewest supplied Netgear one has proved for friends to be stable too. Thought I'd save TW the money. I'll just stick with the one I have until it dies on me.

Some routers can be quite unstable and some need switching off and on again at least once a day, some many times a day. The one I have has been fine for months without a reset.

    Hi All,

If anyone is on Telewest Cable 4mbit or 10mbit (or Virgin Media from Thursday) you can get a free Netgear Wireless router if you call 150 from your Telewest phone and ask them! All we were told is if we cancelled broadband within 12 month, we'd have to pay tht £40 for the router, otherwise, no problem!

Arrived very quickly too and works fine!

For some reason, I believe NTL (or ex NTL customers) can't get the free router for some reason, yet anyway, but it may be worth ringing to ask!

    Cheers

    Steve

I phoned yesterday for this - 10mb telewest customer - and was told the offer finished on MOnday!! Not sure they may have been spinning me a line so would be interested to hear how others get on. I even threatened to take business else where but they wouldn't give in..

I've just called telewest (been with them for years, despite appalling service and very expensive) and was told I was already on cheap BB at £19.99, which they wouldn't reduce, despite me threatening to leave.

They also refused to send me a wireless router, despite threatening to take my business elsewhere.

Their customer service stinks, and it's getting worse. The lady in the call centre was really rude.

I have had my price reduced by them for the past months by £36 ( they have matched Sky broadband prices), this comes to an end next month so I realy can't complain and have always been delighted with service and support.
