To be pedantic, there is nothing in Post #1 that shows the OP to be female.

If people will pay £200K for a one bedroom flat THEN one bedroom flats will cost £200K.
Simple really.0 -
Today I went to look at a "project" as most of the new "Property speculators" seem to call these places. A total wreck with no bathroom or even ceilings upstairs

Now as it was dark and peeing down with rain. As it was a limited viewing (couple of hours) there were probably 20 or so people looking around the Property. They were (obviously) all pretty stupid as they couldn't see what they'd be buying at Auction as I was the only one with a torch - It was so dark people were walking into each other! I had to smile - this about sums up the current market. People can't see what we're buying - but hey - property only ever goes up!0 -

I'd say that, ideally, the average wage should be able to buy, at least, the average FTB's house (what's that then?).
However, it's the average wealth that should be able to buy the average house.
Not sure what we have at the moment.

Among the past FTBs I know, the average FTB house would be a three-bed terrace. However, given that those FTBs have typically earnt below average wages as they bought in their 20s, someone on an average wage should expect better than that.0 -

We'll probably be having "House Price Boom Next Year!" and lots of ppl commenting to put all our hard earned savings to buy a house rather than to keep on renting. Interest rate is falling so it's time to buy one before the steam runs out.0 -

Why should the UK be the only country where everyone owns their own house? That is greed in my opinion regardless of salary. Typical British attitude.
As for your other comment, an average house for an average salary???? Well in that case I should be p1ssed that my 6 bed house isnt a 20 bed 200 acre mansion assuming the average wage is £30K.
The typical comments always emerge in these sort of debates which are so very very boring now.
People must remember that times change. Who's to say that in the future people wont be getting mortgages just to secure a long term rent? Sure not in our generation nor the next but I wouldnt be surprised if this eventually came to be the case.0 -

Shall we take bets on who will start the first "House Price Crash, I told you so" thread:T0 -
Why should the UK be the only country where everyone owns their own house?
Where did anyone say that it would? Many people prefer to rent for various reasons, I don't believe that anyone is intending to _force_ them to buy a house.
But property ownership has been a vast force for social stability over the last few decades, because people who own a house have much to lose from social instability. A country where an entire generation of young people are priced out of the housing market by the greedy generations before them is a country where they'll have little to lose by rioting in the streets.People must remember that times change.
Do you really think that today's kids are going to meekly accept a much lower standard of living than their parents? Do you really think you'll be immune if they decide that they're better off stealing and rioting than working for no benefit?0 -

.
My god, so how is it not greed for the "haves" to own properties and rent them out etc to the "have nots" just because of how old they are, personal situation etc meaning that they got on the ladder at the right time. I seem to remember a thread saying you had multiple problems or maybe i am wrong so if you have even one does that make you greedy?0
